The Charles Evans Innis Memorial Library at Medgar Evers College is exhibiting the art work of emerging talents, artists Tanda Francis and Patrick Eugene.
When you walk into the library you will be greeted by Tandaโ€™s awe-inspiring sculpture of Biggie Small that will have your heart yearning for his music. On the lower level you will find Patrickโ€™s breathtaking abstract art that is colorful and emotional that โ€œโ€ฆ reflects the raucus energy of the urban experience with the delicate patina of an old soul well traveledโ€. The Charles Evans Innis Memorial Library at Medgar Evers College is seemingly becoming the mecca for Brooklyn artists and you all should encourage the movement by going out there to check it out!

Hip-hop icon Dr. Dre has shelled out a cool $10 million dollars to help develop a performing arts center for one of the high schools in his native Compton, Calif., the Compton Unified School District announced on Thursday.

The center - which will be a part of the new Compton High School - will include several creative resources, as well as a 1,200 seat-theater. The project is expected to break ground in 2020, Variety reports.

My goal is to provide kids with the kind of tools and learning they deserve,โ€ Dre said in a statement. โ€œThe performing arts center will be a place for young people to be creative in a way that will help further their education and positively define their future.โ€

The new Compton High is expected to serve about 2,500 students once it is built. And Dre is not just handing over the cash and moving on to the next one, the mogul is expected to be involved in raising the additional funds to finish the project.

โ€œThe Compton Unified School District is building what will be the most modern high school complex ever provided to public school students. This extraordinarily ambitious project will be a beacon for transformational change in Compton โ€“ giving our community an unparalleled access to opportunity and achievement,โ€ Micah Ali, Vice Chairman of the Compton Unified School Districtโ€™s Board of Education, said in a statement. โ€œDr. Dre has stepped up and partnered with the school district to make this vision a reality. A true act of giving back to the community in a way that will directly impact the ever-resilient efforts of our students to rise-up and succeed. A true act of leading the way and standing as an example to others of how never to forget where you came from.โ€

This project marks Dreโ€™s second major philanthropic effort in Southern California education, Variety notes. Back in 2013, he and business partner Jimmy Iovine collectively doled out $70 million to the University of Southern California, to create the USC Jimmy Iovine and Andre Young Academy for Arts, Technology and the Business of Innovation.
