We think of the offense as the more complex part of the game which also tends to bring out to :mjpls: in some people, though I'm sure that's been discussed already.
I think that's a big part of it. Offense is seen as the more cerebral, complicated side of the ball to the casual football viewer and I think we're giving some of these owners too much credit in terms of what they know about football. And as someone said, offense provides more highlight type footage than good defense. I'd say they're both equally important, but I'd definitely give a slight edge to defense.

There is simply a huge bias towards hiring offensive coordinators or so called innovators to become NFL head coaches. Every other position coach likely has to toil in the ranks as a DC or special teams coach for years before given a chance. Mike Zimmer comes to mind as a guy who should have gotten a head coaching job years ago. Just look at how easy Chip Kelly found another job simply because he's viewed as an innovative offensive coach.

It's wack. Some of the leagues great coaches were former DC's.

This is starting to get sickening.
Yeah but alot of Defensive Coordinators are rock heads. Meaning they just wanna run the ball, play solid defense and manage the game. Perfect example of that is ya man Jeff mustache:scust: which he learned from the King of this Buddy Ryan
On the low Tony Dungy was like that too which is why he got fired in Tampa.. He was startin Shawn King at QB :heh: Only until he got to Indy with the perfect situation of a hall of fame QB did he finally win. All he had to do was build the defense. It was perfect for him.

They made the game about the QB and alot of times these defensive coordinators just don't have their fingers on the pulse of offensive football..

You mentioned Zimmer..He has shown right now that he understands as a head coach he has to control all aspects of football and not just one side of the ball. Todd Bowles also looks like a defensive coordinator that understands the big picture and not a rock head on some Rex Ryan, Dave Wannstedt shyt.

A lot of these d coordinators are just rock heads, B

With the hard salary cap in place there's a bigger emphasis on offense because of how much a good QB can sway things. Look at the teams who consistently win and are in the playoffs...all have elite level QB's in place.

This.

QB coddling/whispering is a top requirement of a HC these days.

QBs don't play defense... :manny:

You can say that about a lot of coaches, that's not just some corny DC trait.

Defense is totally phased out of the game now it's easy to see why this is happening

Really no reason to hire a defensive genius when it's nearly impossible to have a dominant defense in today's game and even the best defenses are bend but don't break

Last year was mostly defensive coaches hired(think I read 6 of 7). Offensive coaches this year is a coincidence. It could easily be defensive again next year

Edit: didn't read the whole thread before posting this. I see someone above posted it
