Defense is just as important.offense is more important
Defense is just as important.
Problem is, many look at defense through the lenses of the past. Coaching defenses to bend but don't break is an intentional part of football now.
They're mostly led by former DCs. There's a reason why formers OCs tire of play calling duties.defense varies much more year to year than offense does. With the cap, solidifying the offense(QB) gives you a better longterm outlook...just look at the playoff teams.
With the hard salary cap in place there's a bigger emphasis on offense because of how much a good QB can sway things. Look at the teams who consistently win and are in the playoffs...all have elite level QB's in place.
APU you need to avoid any sports discussions, you embarrass ya selfWould you prefer special teams?![]()
Great...so like 3 or 4 teams. What about the squads that don't have Brady or Rodgers? The Bengals are consistently in the playoffs and it ain't because of their QB play. Ravens were before them and it wasn't because of their QB. Broncos have basically been winning in spite of their QB all year. Houston, KC, Minny, were all keyed by their defense. 11 of the top 12 teams in PPG against were in the playoffs this year. Teddy Bridgewater, Alex Smith, whoever Houston was starting, Cousins, were all in the playoffs while Brees, Stafford, Ryan, Tannehill, Kaep were all at home.
Blame Goodell. Rules are skewed towards offensive skill players, particularly the QB.
So who you think is gonna get the HC jobs?
you'd be surprised

It's even worse in CFB.There is simply a huge bias towards hiring offensive coordinators or so called innovators to become NFL head coaches. Every other position coach likely has to toil in the ranks as an DC for years before being given a chance. Mike Zimmer comes to mind as a guy who should have gotten a head coaching job years ago. Just look at how easy Chip Kelly fond another job simply because he's viewed as an innovative offensive coach.
It's wack. Some of the leagues great coaches were former DC's.
This is starting to get sickening.
That isn't closing The thread. Like I said...you just proved that folks like you are viewing the game through old lenses. Great defensive minds now coach by quadrants on the field. Meanwhile, you're still looking for the 85 Bears and believe it's not worth finding a DC to lead a team because they fall short of that old way of coachingclose thread.
Doesn't matter if you have a defensive minded coach, the day of shut down defenses is over. And if you did manage to have one,it would be short lived. At the same time I think the days of a franchise quarterback are over too, give me a game manager![]()
The Jets did...unless you are talking about Bowles' replacement.
no doubtI get your point but there is still no way that a losing team is gonna outdraw a winning team with all things being equal.
