Great thread. I crunched the #s a while back and shyt was depressing and really put things in perspective:

Quick Maths

• ~1% of the population is transgender. (3 million)
• Approximately 40% of them have tried to commit suicide at least once. (1.2 million)
• Estimates show that a shockingly low amount of transgenders in college women sports (< 100)

That means that every time you come across one transgender playing collegial women's sports, there are 12,000 transgenders who are trying/succeeding in killing themselves.

From a utilitarian perspective, whether or not someone plays sports in college is not as meaningful as whether a person tries to kill themselves. This is why Republicans are so adept at culture wars. They reframe the conversation so that any attempt to help a vulnerable population is excessive.

It's the same playbook they have when talking to white people about Affirmative Action or DEI which makes it all the more disappointing seeing other black people react against transgender rights in a way that mirrors uninformed white people re: Affirmative Action/DEI.
