This mortgage scheme is going to be big. Nigeria at the moment has a 17 million housing deficit. (and its still growing)
This mortgage scheme will address it. what I love about this is the price range of the houses will be from 2 million naira to 20 million naira and the loan will last for about 15 to 20 years at single digit interest rates. If we convert the house prices to dollars that is $12,000 to $120,000.
Finally Nigerians will be able to afford to buy a house. The days of Nigerian's having to purchase houses at full price is gradually ending.
This 10,000 houses project is the inaugural face. They are a lot more to be built and they are in the process of partnering with real estate developers to take on the load.
I am also excited because in October the car financing scheme will also come online to enable Nigerians to purchase the manufactured in Nigeria cars on credit. ( in line with the governments auto policy)
The multiplier effect these two policies will have on the Nigerian economy will be immense.
VENTURES AFRICA – After making a huge impression in the Nigerian auto-market with its locally manufactured trucks and buses, Nigeria’s leading indigenous automobile manufacturer Innoson Vehicles Manufacturing Company Limited has disclosed that it is set to take its brand to Nigeria’s neighbours in West Africa.
Key markets on Innoson’s radar are the Republic of Benin and Ghana.
The Auto Company, which had its production lines officially commissioned by Nigeria’s President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan in 2010, plans to export export its soon-to-be-completed passenger cars.
The vehicles are been produced at the company’s manufacturing plant in Nnewi, Anambra State of Southeastern Nigeria where the Chairman of the Auto Company Innocent Ifediaso Chukwuma, on Tuesday, gave a brief preview of the passenger cars which include Fox Sedan and Amazon car brands in an event to mark the takeoff of Nigeria’s new auto policy.
The Innoson boss praised the Nigerian government’s introduction of the Nigerian Automotive Industry Development Plan (NAIDP) which, among other things, calls for more patronage of vehicles made in Nigeria. He described the policy as a game changer, emphasizing the impact it will have on fostering the growth and development of the local auto industry even as he remarked that the Innoson manufacturing plant was set up long before the introduction of the auto policy at a time when importation of vehicles made for a more profitable business venture than building such vehicles from scratch.
Chukwuma called for Nigerians to patronise products of Innosson Vehicle Manufacturing Company (IVM) as it symbolises the local auto industry been driven by the new auto policy. “Innoson is the only auto brand name that you cannot get anywhere else in the world except in Nigeria… In America, they are proud of their Ford and Chevrolet; In India, Tata and Maruti are respected, promoted and patronized by both the government and citizens and in Malaysia, Protom which is also indigenous to the country is loved as the national car brand”, he said.
He also boasted with the fact that Innoson is the only made-in-Nigeria vehicle that bears a local name with others being foreign brands made in Nigeria. “If you go to Europe, America and Asia or anywhere outside this country, you won’t see any vehicle called Innoson because the name does not exist in any other place in the world except here”.

LONDON— ConocoPhillips said Wednesday it had completed the sale of $1.5 billion of Nigerian oil assets to local player Oando PLC, as Nigerian companies take an increasingly assertive role in the running of their country's hydrocarbons riches.
Under the deal, Lagos-based Oando will acquire a string of stakes in oil and gas fields, exploration licenses, gas plants, pipelines and a key oil terminal.
ConocoPhillips said it would make an after-tax gain of approximately $1.1 billion on the sale, which it said it would spend on unspecified high-margin growth projects. Like many others in the U.S., the company is focusing the largest part of its investment on shale oil deposits in North Dakota and Texas. ConocoPhillips last year shed its oil business in Algeria for $1.75 billion.
“This transaction represents a transformational leap forward for our company and is in line with our overall strategy to grow our portfolio of Nigeria-based assets by focusing on those opportunities that deliver high-quality growth in reserves and production,” OER CEO Pade Durotoye said.
He added that OER’s management team was familiar with the assets and possessed the managerial experience and technical expertise necessary to unlock their value.
Also commenting, OER chairperson Wale Tinubu stated that the company believed in the significant potential that the Nigerian oil and gas industry held.
“[We] are privileged to play a pivotal role in its consolidation, growth and development. We will continue to seek strategic opportunities that provide a platform for enhanced growth and value creation for our stakeholders,” Tinubu said.
Oando said the purchase supports its goal of becoming a top explorer and producer in Nigeria. It now marks the company’s exit from the African nation.
