What’s the World’s Fastest-Growing Economy? Ghana Contends for the Crown
Ghana economy do big things.

According to a New York Times report, the country is set to outpace both India with its “booming tech sector” and Ethiopia’s agriculture and coffee export-driven growth.

Ghana’s bright fortunes are hinged on its increased crude oil production and rises prices in the global market.

“In the last 18 months, two major oil fields off Ghana’s coast have started production,” the report stated.

In 2017, production jumped to nearly 60 million barrels, resulting in oil export revenues 124 percent above the previous year, the Time reported, quoting data from Ghana’s central bank revealed.

According to the International Monetary Fund (IMF), in 2018, Ghana’s projected growth is between 8.3 and 8.9 percent, with only Bhutan, a South Asian country, predicted to have a higher growth.

In January, Ghana’s benchmark stock index “achieved the world’s highest rate of growth” at 19 percent.

Ghana’s agricultural sector is also experiencing good fortunes as local producers tap from oil wealth to increase cocoa production, an abundant natural resource of the country.

“Cocoa sales are helping lift Ghana’s agriculture sector, which at the end of last year posted its best quarter of growth since 2010, driven by a bumper cocoa crop,” the report noted.

What the Ghanaian gov't should do is have an artificial barrier to prevent an oil-boom in gov't spending. Any oil profits which are above what would be earned if oil was say...$30 a barrel should be put in a rainy day/infrastructure spending account. That way, oil money can be funneled back into the initiatives of the current gov't.

Maybe they're already doing that.

Of course. If the EFF comes back, the ANC will have a super majority once again in terms of popularity.

The land appropriation statements are now fully explained.

Yep. If they could get Malema back, then the EFF is done.

Won't happen tho because I'm sure Malema can see, that's why the ANC tried co-opting the EFF's message

Ghana is also starting to produce value added cocoa products themselves which if able to be harnessed & gain market cap in Africa & other areas will be a huge potential avenue.

IMMIGRANT TETHERS
Presenting a 32.5trn/- draft budget for FY 2018/19 to MPs, the minister said the state is considering pumping more funds in the private sector to help build a flourishing industrial economy. “Our new plan is to engage the private sector in the implementation of development projects.

We are addressing obstacles holding back investment and through a publicprivate partnership we want to ensure easy access to land for investment,” he said in a detailed statement to the House. The meeting was also attended by ministers and the Deputy Speaker, Dr Tulia Ackson, at which the government said it had also resolved to build at least a hundred industries in every region.

The detailed cites 110 new industries whose construction are at various stages of completion; in the new list targeting industries to be built during FY 2017/18, Coast Region leads with 47 industries, followed by Dar es Salaam (16), Mwanza (13) and Tanga (7).

Other regions had less than five new factories, namely, Dodoma, Mtwara, Shinyanga, Arusha, Singida, Kagera, Katavi, Lindi, Mbeya, Kilimanjaro and Morogoro. Dr Mpango listed projects that would be implemented under PPP in the next financial year as the Mwambani Port, Standard Gauge Railway line, Mchuchuma/ Liganga (coal) and Tanga- Arusha-Musoma railway line.

We are also considering to engage the private sector in operating the Dar es Salaam passenger train, natural gas connectivity to households in the city as well as running the Second, Third and Fourth phases of the Dar rapid transit – DART,” he said.
