IMMIGRANT TETHERS
like I stated a year and a half ago, Angola is investing heavily in manufacturing and agriculture. They now past Kenya and Tunisia in the manufacturing sector for 5th in Africa. And those two countries were way more established in that department. Their textile manufacture is booming.
oil decline is a blessing in disguise

Yeah, easily. Booming economy, tons of investment in infrastructure and relatively little violence or political tribalism.

They just came out of civil war. The economy is booming becauze they are recovering

The war was some time ago. Outarra is a French puppet but he is makes moves that are commendable in comparison to most other African nation. Don't seem power hungry or tribal, either.

Angola in 2015 reached a new record in diamond production with the extraction of 8.837 million carats, which generated revenue of US$1.107 billion, said Wednesday in Luanda the minister of Geology and Mining.

Francisco Queirós, who gave a summary of the activities of the diamond and ornamental stone sub-sectors in 2015, said that although production had hit a record, revenues were lower than in 2014 due to a drop in the price of diamonds on international markets.

Revenues from the sale of diamonds in 2014 amounted to US$1.303 billion.

“However, we are pleased, because we have reached a very good production target, which amounted to 103 percent of the forecast in the revised National Development Plan,” the minister said.

The production of ornamental stone reached 39,500 cubic metres, which accounted for 71.4 percent of the target of 55,000 cubic metres projected in the development plan.

In this case, although production has been lower than expected, revenues reached US$8.3 million, against a forecast of US$6.6 million.

“In terms of production this year was very positive,” said Queirós, adding that production of aggregates, in particular for the construction sector, reached 4.5 million cubic metres.

In 2015, the Ministry of Geology and Mining issued 33 licenses, including 21 for the production of ornamental stone and aggregate, three for diamonds and one for gold which raised 120 million kwanzas in fees and charges for the state. (macauhub/AO)

The Angolan electricity grid will receive an additional 960 megawatts of power with the entry into operation of the second power plant of the Cambambe Hydroelectric Project in the province of Kwanza Norte, announced the Minister of Energy and Water.

Minister João Baptista Borges said that the first of four turbines installed in the new Cambambe plant would be operational in June.

To carry this additional production, the minister said, according to Angolan news agency Angop, interconnection lines to Luanda, Gabela (Kwanza Sul) and Benguela are under construction.

Borges also mentioned the Lauca Hydroelectric Plant, under construction in Kwanza Norte province, saying that 65 percent of the work had been carried out and that the first two turbines would come online in June 2017, starting by producing 267 megawatts of power.

The third turbine will start operating in December of that year, producing an additional 77 megawatts. This plant will connect to Luanda, Malanje/Calandula and the transmission system of the power grid to Huambo and Lubango (Huila).

The combined-cycle power plant in Soyo (Zaire province), a project that will produce energy from natural gas, will only start producing power in 2017 – a total of 750 megawatts that will be distributed in Luanda, as well as supplying the Nzeto municipal area and the city of Mbanza Congo, in that province. What did he say that you didn't agree with?

Not sure on the whole the devaluation of the Naira thing. Maybe he should.. since a shytload of other countries are devaluing too..

I don't think the President of a country should ignore a court order. Also, his comments regarding currency devaluation shows that the Bank of Nigeria is not independent and is state-directed. That will cause significant problems. The state cannot direct capital flows as well as a market. Finally, his callous remarks about the Zaria massacre.

Saraki bows to Nigerians, pledges to make details of National Assembly's 2016 budget publicNovember 15, 2015

The hard and soft copies of the 2016 budget documents President Muhammadu Buhari handed over to the National Assembly on December 22, 2015, have been declared missing, PREMIUM TIMES can authoritatively report.

The Nigerian Senate was scheduled to commence deliberation on the proposed budget Tuesday (today).

But Senate Leader, Ali Ndume, shocked lawmakers at a closed-door session, when he told them the budget documents had been stolen, people familiar with the matter told PREMIUM TIMES.

Mr. Ndume, our sources said, explained that deliberation on the budget could therefore not begin until fresh copies of the documents were obtained from the presidency, the Ministry of Finance or that of national planning.

The Chairman, Senate Committee of Appropriation, Danjuma Goje, was subsequently mandated to lead a search for the documents and liaise with the presidency, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters, Ita Enang, and the national planning ministry on the matter.

The Senators also resolved that the matter be kept under wraps, saying making it public could embarrass the presidency, the National Assembly and the country.

Our sources said senators of the Peoples Democratic Party accused the presidency of being behind the theft of the documents, an accusation rejected by their All Progressives Congress’ counterparts, who reportedly said it was too early to speculate.

Some lawmakers told PREMIUM TIMES they are suspicious that the presidency might have colluded with the management of the National Assembly to quietly withdraw the documents after detecting some discrepancies in them.

“Can you imagine this kind of national embarrassment?” one senator asked. “Documents that were presented to us with fanfare have been stolen.”

The spokesperson for the senate, Aliyu Abdullahi, could not been reached for comments. So also is Mr. Goje, the chairman of the appropriation committee.

President Buhari had on December 22,2015 presented a N6.08 trillion budget for the fiscal year 2016 to a joint session of the National Assembly.

It was the first time in three years a Nigerian President would personally present a budget before the National Assembly.

Copies were however not distributed to lawmakers before they proceeded on Christmas and New Year holidays.

But weeks after the budget was presented to lawmakers, there were speculations that Mr. Buhari had withdrawn the documents to enable him to correct some discrepancies, a claim the presidency and the national planning ministry denied.

In the budget, capital expenditure takes N1.8 trillion, marking a significant over 300 per cent increment from the 2015 vote of N557 billion.

According to the estimate, N396billion is voted for education, being the largest sectoral allocation.
The health sector gets N296 billion while defence has N294 billion.
