I don't think it's a work because they never dedicate themselves to any other angles like they would have to for this. Nothing would even be close. They've stuck to this being a shoot for 20 years, and Bret's basically stayed in character about it for 20 years.

One of the reasons I believe it is, is because of Bret and how dedicated to his character he was. He's one of the few people I could see taking to his deathbed a wrestling angle.

The cameras, the original altercation with Bret using "screw" it's just too damn perfect. shyt makes me think this was already planned waaaay before Survivior Series and it just happened.

shyt I never thought of it before but could it had been a work but he wasn't even put it on it? HHH, HBK, Vince and others wrote for the story to go that way, had Bret doing these things and then they pulled the rug on him and did indeed screw him. We know they panned Montreal but could build-up had been planned and Montreal was always their ending :ohhh:

20 years ago man time flies. What was one of the most of the significant events in professional wrestling has been talked about so much that I don't want to hear about it but for the sake of the topic I'll add my thoughts.

If the Screwjob didn't happen Owen would still be alive. I highly doubt they would have did the Blue Blazer gimmick again with Owen since that gimmick was kind of a parody of Hulk Hogan and Bret Hart.

British Bulldog would probably still be alive. If hadn't went to WCW with Bret he would have never messed his back up on that trap door for the Warrior. I heard he got more heavily into the drugs and pain killers after that which messed up his health.

I think the attitude era would have still happened if Bret would have been in the WWF in 1998 and 1999 but not as hardcore as it went. No Val Venis, no Mae Young giving birth to a hand, etc. Basically how it was in late 1997 before he left.

Austin would have beat Bret for the title at Wrestlemania 14.

Not only that but if it was a work then they would've gone as far committing PERJURY for that shyt.

When Bret filed the wrongful death lawsuit over Owen, the WWF lawyers implied Bret was fueled by bitterness over Montreal. If that shyt really was a work Bret would've deaded that in 2 seconds.
