I still think it's one of the most elaborate wrestling angles ever produced. Even as a kid I never understood why Vince wouldn't just strip Bret or have him lose a lot earlier. This is the same company that was laying stuff out months at a time with great detail.

After listening to The Lapsed Fan break it all down, its crazy to know that its been about a year and a half in the Making(Lost Smile,The Fight in CT,Both being out due to injury,PPV Changes, etc.)yeah they had their matches prior to WM12 but this was the Big Explosion waiting to happen
Edit:I also think Bret was Jealous of Shawn getting that Big Push and was probably happy when he saw the Numbers during Shawns Reign and couldn't wait to take his Thunder away when he got back
Listened to this as well. It was detailed as fukk! Good listen if you have a lot of time to spare or while you’re working

Still believe to this day that it's a work. Too many "perfect moments" and things just falling perfectly for it to happen.

Also I just watched this show again a couple days ago and gotdamn it was trash outside of the Screwjob and it's match but a watch party would be great just for the fukkery

not to mention bret was filming at the time as well.

bret got his pay day in wcw
vince ushered in the attitude area with this work (bret didnt like the sex/extreme part of it)

I also listened to the 1997 PPVs in order prior to the latest ep too,You can get a good idea how much was bubbling up between Bret and Shawn, then throw in the Rise of Austin and the Attitude Era,Monday Night Wars,WWF changing the Times for RAW to compete and changing the prices for the PPVs there was a lot going on in 97

I don't think it's a work because they never dedicate themselves to any other angles like they would have to for this. Nothing would even be close. They've stuck to this being a shoot for 20 years, and Bret's basically stayed in character about it for 20 years.

It makes for a compelling tin foil theory, but in an industry where no one can keep their mouth shut about anything, you'd think some real evidence would've surfaced by now. I don't buy that Vince would sit on it for this long without exploiting it for an angle by now either. Especially after HitGOAT made him pay such a heavy price for it.

I agree. For two five star wrestlers, they, for some reason, never put on any matches together that made me go :gladbron:. I'm in the minority on this, but I've always thought that their Iron Man match at Mania was overrated.

because they let their personal feelings get in the way of being able to work together..restricted chemistry..their match at SS 92 i thought was their best
