I'm guessing Hewitt will get the DC job or they bring in Joe Cullen. I can't see Weaver getting it because Houston's defense was ass when he was the DC and he hasn't been in Baltimore as a coach that long.

Wink needs to go to a college team. It says alot about his scheme when guys leave and have "breakout" seasons with sacks or worse, guys who are known for getting sacks (Houston, Ngakoue) come in and they don't look like themselves.

Wow I’m actually surprised :leon:

wondering if Harbs and the front office told him to change up the playcalling or “else”

:manny: Figured someone was taking the fall for the collapse. Thought it might be a position coach or two, but...yeah, I get it. Between the pass rush schemes not hitting and the constant secondary breakdowns, it was probably time for a change.

Guessing they promote in-house as usual and give it to Hewitt, and I'm good with that - he's been here forever and paid his dues, he's ready. Although if Jim H. actually somehow leaves for the NFL I wonder if they'd try to bring back McDonald.

I think this is the main reason he’s gone along with him costing us multiple games with his zero blitzes

Whitt is a turnover guru. He should help Humphrey, Clark and whoever else they put out there get more picks.

This is his coaching bio.

Throughout his 14-year NFL coaching career, Whitt has built a reputation out of creating turnovers.
Whitt was hired by the Cowboys a little over a year ago as their secondary coach and pass game coordinator.

This past season, Dallas led the NFL with 26 interceptions and cornerback Trevon Diggs secured a league-high 11 picks.

Prior to 2021, Whitt had spent time with the Atlanta Falcons, Cleveland Browns, and Green Bay Packers.
As pass game coordinator and secondary coach for Cleveland in 2019, Whitt’s efforts helped the Browns’ defense rank seventh in the league against the pass and eighth in interceptions.

Whitt’s longest tenure was with the Packers from 2008 to 2018, working his way up from defensive quality control to defensive pass game coordinator.
During his 10 years in Green Bay, Whitt helped the team win Super Bowl XLV, and the Packers defense recorded a league-leading total of 176 interceptions.
Whitt also oversaw two Packers cornerbacks, Tramon Williams and Sam Shields, combine for 33 interceptions from 2010-14, the most in the league during that time between two teammates.

Whitt’s know-how as a secondary specialist could appeal to the Ravens, who have recently been hit hard by injuries in the defensive backfield.
In 2021, the Ravens ranked last in the league in opponent passing yards per game (278.9 yards). Baltimore was also one of seven teams that recorded single-digit interceptions (nine), ranked just above the Chicago Bears, Jacksonville Jaguars, and New York Jets.

Hiring Whitt could signal the start of a defensive turnaround in Baltimore, as the secondary is just one of many areas the Ravens will need to rebuild.

Here's my take.

Diggs should be a cautionary tail if Whitt gets the DC job and fans are going to have to learn to take the good with the bad. A lot of turnovers are predicated on gambling in coverage. Ravens are going to give up plays, but should get some turnovers in the process.

Whether we want to believe it or not, the Ravens are in a rebuild. They only have 7-12m in cap space. Elliott, Averett, Bozeman, Houston, Campbell, Williams, Jimmy Smith, Sammy Watkins are all gone unless they sign team friendly deals...which isn't likely outside of Jimmy. They have to build through the draft. If Decosta misses on anymore picks especially the oline, that will add even more time to the rebuild.

We'll see how competitive they are throughout the rebuild. The next 3 years, if Harbaugh is extended that long, will make or break Lamar's tenure in Baltimore. If Harbaugh is as good as some of yawl think he is, he will find ways to not lose games with a young unexpeienced defense and oline. They're going to be asking alot of Whitt if he's the future DC. The Ravens will have to feast off turnovers to be competitive.

this team is not rebuilding

you can retool a defense in 1 offseason and on offense we just need olineman and maybe a backup TE

they’ll have the money and picks to get what they need to compete for a superbowl

im not giving them the “rebuilding” out

If the teams doesn’t have a deep playoff run next year then they should clean house…starting with DeCosta

if we don’t draft a olineman with our 1st round pick it’ll show that DeCosta still doesn’t get it

my guess is he’ll take a corner :francis:

I'm concerned he definitely will take a Safety or Corner...or worse another OLB/DE.

I'd be fine with them drafting a day 1 starter at Center or Guard 1st and a Tackle with the 2nd pick! They have plenty of 3rd and 4th round picks to rebuild the defense. The oline needs to be solid now. Lamar isn't Lamarvelous without protection.

Every draft, someone will certainly fall out of a round they believe the player should've been taken. That's where the Ravens need to play clean up in the 3rd and 4th. The draft ain't deep at C/G. They gotta fix that shyt now. Can Mekari play center, yeah, but hes not better than Bozeman or he would've been starting over him period. The answer to LG may not be on the roster. Cleveland is big and strong, but he's not agile. Phillips should be the LG, but he may be needed at RT. They gotta protect their franchise qb and the later round picks haven't been working out at oline so far. You gotta invest there.

shyt, if they get a competent DC that can actually disguise coverages and produce legitimate pressure, athletic, smart DBs is all you're gonna need. You won't need the big splash FAs in the secondary. I wanna see Peters play like himself, not scared Chuck doesn't have his back if he takes a chance. I wanna see Humphrey actually get some ints. fukking execute and make a play scary ass nikkas :damn:

all facts right here and I really don't see them attracting outside coordinators when the coach is in his final season of his contract
