They got run off the floor in the playoffs 2 years ago a game after Tatum went NBA Jam on they ass and they had Jimmy Butler looking like Jordan last year. So it's not like their defense was very dependable when it matters most before anyway. At least now they have someone that makes you think twice about building that Giannis wall and who can make shots and take over late to counteract what other teams are doing. Push comes to shove you have a better chances finding a defender or two or figuring something out schematically than you do finding a player who does what Dame does or manufacturing it schematically.

This, you just gotta give it some time and see how they look in the playoffs. It doesn't look good defensively at all right now, but they can use this regular season to tinker with things and adjust as the coaching staff sees fit. In recent years they've been top 3 at minimum in the regular season and most of those playoff runs ended in flameouts. (sans 2021) The real test will be in the postseason, where buckets become scarce and you need a bucket in timely moments, exactly the reason they went out and got Dame.

They need a 3&D to pair with Dame

They need a guy like Melton from the Sixers
They need to let Andre Jackson run with Dame. I just can’t see Griffin putting Beasley on the bench as long as he continues to shoot like he has. But AJJ was bringing energy, hustle and defense when he was running with the starting five.

Dame and Beasley might be the worst defensive backcourt I've have ever seen

And the coach looks terrified to say anything to Dame
