Atlanta's filling out the roster with players they would like to take a long look at this summer, with three signings today that haven't cropped up in any free agent rumors.
Robinson was drafted by Washington (surprise!) and was an intriguing, speedy receiver prospect for them for a little while, though he never really made an impact. The 27-year-old hasn't seem game action since 2014 and would seem to be a poor bet to make the final roster, likely competing with
Nick Williams,
Eric Weems, and perhaps a draft pick for one of the last spots on the team's receiver depth chart.
Van Dyke is a 2011 third round pick with phenomenal speed, but as is typical of
Raiders drafted over the last decade or so, speed was about his only calling card. He's 27 now, hasn't played in an NFL game since 2013, and would again be little more than a flier for a team shopping for a speedy cornerback who may or may not be able to return kicks. Again, I'd bet against him making the roster.
Caleb Rutherford wrote more about his speed.
The final signing is a more familiar one. Parms spent the summer of last year with the Falcons, showing reasonably well before being beaten out for a roster spot by Robenson Therezie. The 6'2", 210 pounder has decent athleticism and good size, and should compete for a roster spot at safety again in a year where the position group is pretty unsettled. We wish him luck.
At the end of the day, all of these are chances, but we'll see if the Falcons can mold one or two of them into assets for the team in 2016. Give us your best guess as to what happens with Parms, Van Dyke, and Robinson.
