The 2nd wild card has been way overblown though. The only place where it's really making a big impact is the NL. The AL Wild Card race would actually be better right now if there wasn't a 2nd wild card.

so then it hasnt been overblown. :merchant:

the NL race is exciting and will go down to the last week with at least 4 teams left.

this AL MVP argument is getting fukkin ridiculous. People seem to take it as a slight to Trout if you back Cabrera. What about the WAR!?!?!?! Is there one person on this site who has seen a triple crown? Can we stop acting like that isn't an enormous accomplishment? Holy shyt, it's ridiculous.

"Homers, rbis and average are terrible stats to judge a player on" been seeing that a lot too. We get it, this is the new era of stats, but shut the fukk up. They don't count at all anymore? "Well you need to factor in defense, and speed, and luck..." shut the fukk up! A TRIPLE fukkIN CROWN! We might see a triple crown! The kid is amazing, but a TRIPLE CROWN!

yet some people will still say it isn't close.

I've also seen people say "Cabrera has Prince and Verlander," like Pujols didn't help carry that team for a few months.

Stop taking it as a slight to Trout, everyone knows he's having a ridiculous season. I'd be in favor of co-mvps. If Cabrera wins a fukkin TRIPLE CROWN, lock that shyt up.

I don't really know why Trout has become the "WAR candidate" and when this turned into yet another battle between stats and old school thinking. Trout has been the best and most valuable player in the league. Cabrera has been the best hitter. I don't even know how this is debatable.

Is there one person on this site who has seen a triple crown? Can we stop acting like that isn't an enormous accomplishment? Holy shyt, it's ridiculous.

Again...no one is saying it isn't impressive or the Cabrera isn't having a great season. Even if it's not much different than the last few seasons he's had, it's a great season.

"Homers, rbis and average are terrible stats to judge a player on" been seeing that a lot too. We get it, this is the new era of stats, but shut the fukk up. They don't count at all anymore?

Why continue to be willingly dense about this? The only reason those stats are the "Triple Crown" is because some dude 90 years ago decided to put them on the back of a baseball card. This happened in a time where walks weren't considered an offensive skill/achievement. It happened when black players were viewed as inferior. Outside of nostalgia, theres no reason to treat these stats like the Triple Crown does.

RBIs are simply not an accurate way to rate an INDIVIDUAL'S performance. Cabrera leads the league in RBIs because he's a great hitter who has A shytLOAD OF RBI opportunities. Cabrera has had 319 ABs with runners on base (3rd in the AL) and a total of 424 runners on in front of him (4th in the AL). Adrian Gonzalez actually had a higher RBI% rate, but simply didn't have the same number of opportunities to make it matter.

Batting average is cool...but it is such a low correlation with winning compared to other offensive stats.

Can we PLEASE get past this dated way to analyze performance. Miguel Cabrera is a GREAT hitter and probably the best hitter in baseball. But it's not because of his RBI total.

"Well you need to factor in defense, and speed, and luck..." shut the fukk up!

I don't know why this would make you mad. It's kind of absurd to NOT account for the rest of the game...especially when one player is the best at everything else while the other is one of the worst :heh:
A TRIPLE fukkIN CROWN! We might see a triple crown! The kid is amazing, but a TRIPLE CROWN!

I'm tired of this shyt. The Triple Crown is just a randomly selected trio of stats. They aren't the three most important stats...they aren't even close. Also, it's not even a real fukking award or title. It's just leading in three arbitrarily chosen stats. No difference between someone leading the league in Runs, On Base Percentage and Steals.

It's like voting for the NBA MVP based solely on scoring average...or the NFL MVP only on TD passes. It's not that they're completely irrelevant, but that there are so many more and better ways to look at the game.

And one more thing, if Cabrera falls one HR short...it shouldn't change his candidacy. People are just in love with STORIES, which is all this really is.

yet some people will still say it isn't close.

It's not. The difference in Defensive/Baserunning value is much greater than the difference in hitting value.
I've also seen people say "Cabrera has Prince and Verlander," like Pujols didn't help carry that team for a few months.

Agreed, this shyt is stupid.

Stop taking it as a slight to Trout, everyone knows he's having a ridiculous season. I'd be in favor of co-mvps. If Cabrera wins a fukkin TRIPLE CROWN, lock that shyt up.

I don't care about slighting anyone. I'd just rather we not give the Most Valuable Player award to someone who isn't the most valuable player.

And which of these two groups better understands player value?

I kind of hope the Tigers make the playoffs while finishing with a worse record than the Angels so we can watch writers fall all over themselves using the "team in the postseason" argument :dead:

if the tigers can get into the playoffs its Cabrera

Hypothetically....

The Tigers finish 86-76 and win the AL Central by 1 game.
The Angels finish 88-74 and miss the WC by 1 game.

Would you still use that asinine argument?
