I get what you're trying to say, but the all-nba teams are still designed to recognize that. Why kill off any recognition for who the best C is? If a PF like Duncan is gonna be worthy of a spot, he'll get that spot at F.

But this isn't an idea designed to kill off recognition for C's as much as it's an idea reflect the progression of skill positions in the nba. We're seeing so many less traditional line ups out there nowadays and so many teams who go small for stretches at a time, that it makes sense (to me at least)to go with the format the all star game is using. As long as the discrepancy between the production of Centers and the rest of the league remains so large, I think you can justifiably pick someone like Duncan; a foward who can reasonably play center when need be, over every other center.

I'd be inclined to agree with you if picks were already made on a strict basis of picking the best player at each position, but the NBA has already blurred the lines a bit by just making the requirements any two guards and any two forwards for the team, just take things one step further and give voters a bit more freedom to recognize players more for their play.

My Pops Forever RIP
John Hollinger, a fixture of ESPN.com's coverage of the NBA for the past eight seasons and one of the leaders in basketball's rising statistical analysis movement in the past decade, is leaving his role as a columnist to join the front office of the Memphis Grizzlies.

Best known for hatching the formula behind every player's Player Efficiency Rating (PER) -- which attempts to quantify player performance through the use of an all-in-one rating -- Hollinger will begin work as a senior executive in the Grizzlies' basketball department next week.

"It's incredibly difficult to leave ESPN, but the chance to work for an NBA team and the Grizzlies' new ownership was an irresistible opportunity," Hollinger said Thursday.

Hollinger was recruited to the Grizzlies by new controlling owner Robert Pera and CEO/managing partner Jason Levien, who have made upgrading Memphis' analytics department one of their front-office priorities.

Sources close to the situation told ESPN.com that the move has no bearing on the status of Grizzlies general manager Chris Wallace but added that Hollinger will be a "prominent voice in the team's front office beyond providing statistical analysis."

The Grizzlies on Thursday declined comment.

Hollinger, 41, founded the website "Alleyoop" in 1996 to launch his online career as a basketball sabermetrician and authored a series of books originally known as the "Pro Basketball Prospectus" and later titled "Pro Basketball Forecast."

He went on to work for The Oregonian newspaper's online site (OregonLive.com) and served as the NBA editor of Sports Illustrated's online site (SI.com) before joining ESPN.com in February 2005.

I was sure Craig Sager would have had one of the "cock and balls" doughnuts in that Voodoo Donuts box.
