That construct didn't exist in the context it does today. Yes slaves were traded for frivolous things like mirrors, sun umbrellas, cameras, guns and ect. (I know this because I've been to the Badagry Slave Museum 4+ times) but if those selling slaves knew the fate of those whom they were selling...

I assume that must have been thinking of Dahomey who were of the Fon ethnic group; but be aware that they were not selling their own people into slavery; they were actually selling people from the neighbor Oyo Kingdom into slavery (mostly Yoruba people and other ethnic groups near the Yoruba); who the Dahomey people had warred against for a long time. The Oyo had subjugated and taxed the Dahomey people and literally chased them (the Dahomey people) into modern day Togo.

The Dahomey King sought out the Europeans for arms and it was through modern armaments of that day that the Dahomey people were able to gain the upper hand in their war against the Oyo; which lead to the fall of the Kingdom of Oyo and enslavement of the Yoruba people, who the Dahomey people then sold to the Europeans that had armed the Dahomey people to begin with.
In closing; you should probably study more on the kingdoms that were in Africa before you continue to make dumb statements.
