The 1 copy Wu Tang LP surpassed Detox as most anticipated of all time but who will care in 88 years?

Probably nobody, tbh. That shyt could leak tomorrow and I doubt a lot of people would be pressed to listen unless it was really critically acclaimed, but hell, people still haven't heard undun or we got it from here and I think the roots and atcq are more popular, and a lot more casual, than wu is in 2019.

It was the most anticipated? They released an album just a few months before that, it sold 24k first week

i feel you but wu tang is a staple in hip hop’s history when that shyt drops it’ll be a historical event if hip hop is still heralded like it is today.

if another group like d12 tried this it’ll be irrelevant.

But when u do the math backwards 88 years ago Hip Hop didnt exist it was Jazz that was the dominant Black music. Who is to say that in 88 years forward there will be a whole new genre Black people are into? U right it will be historical for "hip hop" but what if the next generation moved way passed hip hop like we did with Jazz? Like I said...If that 1927 Jelly Roll song dropped in 2015 it would still be historical for "jazz" but in an era where jazz is no longer dominant and Black music is dominated by 2 whole new different genres(hip hop and R&B).

Yes it wil be historical when it drops but we might be 2 new genres deep by that time and it would only be "historic" fans who are interested in it.

I thought the deal was that you couldn't SELL it for 88 years?

If that's the case then you'd be able to release it for free if you wanted. I think that the feds still have it though.

A legal agreement with the purchaser stipulates that the album cannot be commercially exploited until 2103, although it can be released free or played during listening parties. RZA replied that the 88-year ban was necessary to maintain the integrity of the album as a work of art and to deflect any notions of a grand marketing or publicity stunt.

But then whoever buys it depreciates it by giving it away for free. I think thats why they threw that catch in there. If I pay millions for it I lose just giving it away for free because now the value is gone. Imagine me paying 5 million for music your going to download for free and throw in the trashbin after the first listen. Thats why that "listening parties" clause makes sense because it is still kept as exclusive. Plus you have to remember...The preservation of it makes the value of it go higher so who's to say that by 2103 AD it wont be worth 50 million as a work of art? Rza and Civilringz were very smart with this idea. They got paid and left a legacy imprint in the music game with this album.

Is it really more anticipated than Detox though?

If I recall right, the only reason it even got as much hype as it did was because of the goofy one copy and the 88 year gimmick thing. Did anyone actually care about a new Wu-Tang album more than Detox? I'm a big Wu head so I'm not hating on them but I never got the impression that folks were ever as excited about that album as they were for Detox.

Detox had real hype and was actually cared about for almost a decade (give or take a couple years depending on how big a Dre fan you were) before people gave up on it. It's easy to look back and realize it was never coming out, but over the years there were a few periods where it seemed like it might actually happen.

Detox was definitely more hyped within the industry. Dozens of your favorite producers and rappers talked about working on it, or what they heard from it, and stuff like that. It was a big question in magazines and interviews for a long time to ask anyone known to have worked on the album or affiliated with Aftermath/Shady about it.

Technically yes...But the anticipation will not be in this generation but the next because they are the ones who will be involved in the countdown. The next generation wont have anything to do with Detox. Thats why its genius because like ol boy said...there was no real hype for the Wu album that came out around the same time so what this 1 copy album does is it creates a hype just on the artistic value alone.

TheDarceKnight u are correct about the hype of this era towards Detox but an 88 year countdown is some next level shyt. Now one can assume & conclude that no one will care in the future due to new genres emerging but what if....What if there is an actual hype for the countdown? What if historians make a big deal about it finally being available to hear for all....Like a big time capsule reveal like what they do when they find an Ancient Egyptian mummy tomb. Like that scene in Back To The Future 2 when Western Union had a bet on wether a Marty Mcfly would actually show up in 1955, 70 years later at that exact spot, there was this built up anticipation for it. I believe there will be a countdown for it...I'm just questioning if the countdown will be a big thing for the future generation who more then likely would be into a whole new genre or will it be something only the music historians care about. But there will be a countdown and that countdown will count as an anticipation thats why I say it surpasses Detox.

The worst part about this is that the 88 year wait is depending on the premise that someone has it in 88 years and cares to release it. Could still be in a vault of the feds then, could be lost too, for whatever reason. Maybe whoever owns it decides he or she does not want to release it at all, wanting the single album to stay special.:picard:
