It isn't a 'form' of slavery.

It IS slavery.

So what?
Money is slavery too, right? You can only buy things with money, and you have to do things that others tell you to do in order to get money.

Government is slavery too, right? If you don't follow the rules, you go to jail.

Let's just throw out the term 'slavery' because it's just supposed to have an emotional impact. Let's call it 'power'. Power is real in the world, it's not good or bad, and it's not going anywhere.

AMENDMENT XIII

SECTION 1.

Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction.

SECTION 2.
Congress shall have power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation.

Let's call it slavery because that's what it's called in the Constitution.

So what?

Ok, we can do that in this case. I'm just saying that metaphorical use of the word slavery is over the top.

And ya, so what? He did the crime, and Amendment 13 says he can be enslaved because of that. His crime was bad, so the law wasn't wrong. He was wrong.

Power exists in the world. People win and lose. Rather than cry about losing, figure out how to win.

It isn't 'metaphorical'. It's actual. When you are sentenced to jail/prison or even just Community Service, you become a slave of the County, State and Federal Gov't.

You want to 'win'? Don't do something stupid (like rob and murder someone) and get locked-up.

:shaq:I was addressing the use of the word slavery in general. It's thrown around a lot, especially among people against "the man" or "white people" or some conspiracy shyt like "the illuminati":rudy: . Like I said, power is out there, but whining about it (until you get to Hitler's level or something) won't make bit of difference. Just cowboy up.:bustback:

I already agreed that, in this case, it was a valid use of the word. And furthermore, it was justified slavery.:deadhorse:

oh word? maybe we need a new messenger
yea. in his letter that guy is still saying he didn't kill the guy, he only slashed his throat but it's the stabbing that actually killed him :mindblown:
in the victim's brother's letter it's written that during the trial he said the same thing to the victim's family adding that he was the nicest guy he ever met. I think I would've lost it.
I know he was only 19 yrs old but if after all these years the guy still can't admit what he did then he really is a psycho
it really is a case of separating the message from the messenger
