Also by not allowing me to retake algebra I was not able to take more challenging courses in science like chemistry......imagine if a parent tells a child he cannot ride a bike because that child busted his knee trying to ride one for the first time.
thats your fault dude. you failed twice. plus, i know people that took remedial science courses but they still worked their way up to eventually getting to where everyone else is.
So instead of forcing that child to try again, the parent says 'no, take these training wheels, because you will never learn to ride a regular bike'
no, thats not the same thing.

you failed TWICE and are still mad you ain't get where you wanted.

yeah...but its THEIR fault.

You should be lucky they let you leave with a piece of paper.

Instead my school should of made me retake it in the summer, or at least made me take the following semester, or else I will not graduate along with my classmates

so you're retroactively mad they weren't harder on you? :heh:

colleges exist because you're an adult. If you're not going to hold yourself to a higher standard, thats YOUR fault.

How did I fail twice:mindblown: I took the class once! And yes I am upset that my school went easy on me, is that a problem!!!! I thought the general census was that placing kids in dumber classes was not helpful to the student.....Why can't our education standards be more like foreign education.

You're at college (probably one that accepts kids who flunk intro math) and am mad that YOU can't even meet your own expectations?

the point is to place them in lower classes so that they can get into the harder/higher ones.

If you didn't see that through, or invest the time necessary to meet that aim, thats YOUR fault.

First of all I'm not mad, I am just pointing out the flaws of public high schools, in which you obviously feel there is no fault. At this point I am just thinking about other kids in high schools who are not being forced to strive for greatness, by their schools or parents. Of course blame can be placed onto myself, but to say I can't sit here and wish that my school would have forced there students to pass algebra before graduating is crazy and it is just straight up lackluster to me

I don't disagree with your point at all...i'm just mad that YOURE the one making it to be honest :ld: :heh:

Its hard to take that sentiment seriously coming from you. :usure: ...but anyways...

schools don't LIKE lowering the bar, but they can't also always hold you back.

In college, you're paying to go there so if you fukk up, thats on you. Even further, if you don't elevate yourself beyond those intro classes thats on you as well.

the hell do you mean "real world questions?"

Its funny that you nikkas shun trigonometry and algebra II but can't balance a cheque book or learn how to pass upper level physics or biology classes.

Colleges should stop charging crazy money for high-stakes classes with high failure rates. I bet you if college tuition was actually affordable, people would take harder classes more often, especially when thee no-failure rules apply.

40 k in debt with a bullshyt degree >> 100K in debt as a math-related major (IT, engineering) and having no degree to show for it due to failing hard classes too often.

Excuse me?

All classes are charged the same at every school I know of or have been to. If you wanna take calculus 13, go ahead. Just be prepared for it. Don't expect them to lower the standard to account for your inability to succeed.

what?

No failure rules??? wtf are those?

and college is expensive because loans are widely available. Remember that. Colleges charge more because they're guaranteed to make that money back.

So don't major in hard shyt and fail in it. Thats no one's fault but your own.

What a joke. And we wonder why so much human capital in the tech industry has to be imported from other countries. It's because we don't place an emphasis on science and math. People overseas are learning calculus in middle school. Meanwhile we're trying to pat people on the back for not having the focus to pass algebra in highschool? What a joke. And you guys know damn well a lot of this talk stems from teachers giving up on minority students.

So don't major in hard shyt and fail in it. Thats no one's fault but your own.

America should emulate the higher education from abroad. Charge a little more in taxes, but make college easily affordable for everyone. In American, peopple are taught that if you fail, even giving your best effort, is still not acceptable. That is why people are scared of taking those hard classes taught by shytty professors because when you charge major $$$$ for it without a good chance of passing it, people will just run away. I ain't gonna waste my money on a class and a professor that doesn't teach me effectively.

Math teachers in general should be more effective teachers instead of them giving busy work. All that knowledge means nothing f you can't teach it effectively. That is what teachers across America are failing.

Nah if we're gonna talk about the problem with education we need to talk about problems at home as the primary concern, not the skill of the teachers. If you're driven to learn you hardly even need a teacher to learn. I'm taking calculus 3 next semester and 95% of the math I learned up until this point I learned on my own by either reading the book or resources online. And no its not because I'm some kind of smart person. it has everything to do with focus. If you're not focused, if you don't have the attention span, then you will fail. The teacher has very little do with that.

In terms of the teacher I would say the teachers could do more to inspire kids and motivate them. But again, that begins where kids spend most of their time, which is at home.

abroad meaning...where? Europe? Individual nations stacked on top of each other, each of with having populations totaling only fractions of what exists in the USA?

its NOT acceptable. Thats what YOU don't get.

The standards have actually been lowered and that allows people to skate by thinking shyt is sweet out here.

How are you gonna talk about being taught "effectively" :what: :pachaha:...I'm just gonna put it out there that you SOUND like someone who's never taken a hard science course, much less an upper level one.

You sound like you're scared shytless of doing well in hard classes so you just scraped the barrel with bullshyt degrees and studies. :usure:

precisely.

i'd wager that the HIGHER you go, the professor often has even less to do with it.

There are very few people that can do that. More people are better off in trade schools and so on. People are not all book smart. Not every kid is smart enough to reach calculus 3 or have that focus. America was build on diversity and different kinds of learning.
