public education creates workers.

that's why behavior is the main focus even more so than education, they teach you how to be obedient to authority figures and if you don't comply, DETENTION, suspension, parent conference, until you learn to obey.

Absolutely right. Too many teachers just give them busy work instead of preparing them for actual real world questions.

So the GOPs education plan is: 'Don't worry about all dat-dere fancy pants city boy math and science, we've got career training for you. Here's a mop and bucket for the lunchroom so you can pay for your reduced cost lunch. And if you still don't earn enough to raise yourself about the poverty level working full time don't worry. We will drug test, guilt trip, try to lower your wage, and attempt to cut public assistance to you and your family every chance we get.'

All Texas cares about is test scores and money. Last year the administration at my moms school were telling teacher not to give the students F's, because they wanted to have less10% D's and F's show up. She was a math specialist the year before and when she would try to come up with new things for the kids in her district, they told her they don't want any ideas. :wtf: You are in education but you don't want ideas?

This isn't for them to eliminate extra work for a student that will not need it for a trade school. They just want to look good. Instead of actually teaching students they want short cuts that won't show how their system is failing. A far to large number kids down here are dumb as hell. It's just going to get worse.

We gonna pay for it dearly in the next 10 years.

Wait a min, algebra is not even required to graduate in many states, even blue states:dead:, I know this for a fact because I received a D in algebra 1 in high school (Illinois), so the school put me in a dumber class which was business math so I could graduate on time.

Honestly I was just lazy in school period, algebra is not hard and I had to take a couple of pre-algebra and algebra classes in collage because my High School set me up for failure.

whats that gotta do with MATH though?

we have to admit that in order to self-sufficient to a degree, you MUST understand basic concepts about the world. You can't just "make it" without MATH.

i agree with this i remember learning this shyt and being like im never gonna use this in real life which i havent waste of a subject
Math is so much more than the way you're using those theorems, its an ability to stretch your mind and incorporate postulates to reason out answers.

Its a form of logic. Thats why its so important.

Its not the same as merely finding the answers. Its about giving you tools to figure out things.

the hell do you mean "real world questions?"

Its funny that you nikkas shun trigonometry and algebra II but can't balance a cheque book or learn how to pass upper level physics or biology classes.

See...even this bullshyt just misses the sheer irony in its own statement.

YOU FAILED the EASIEST form of adult math then blamed your high school? :what: :mindblown:

I blamed them, because placing me or any student in a dumber class is not the answer!
This is what is fukked up about our education system, the schools are saying it is ok you can graduate taking a basic math course instead of being forced to take the math that would get you somewhere in college does nothing but encourage the ideal of failure to the student.
In the real world if you fail you have to get up and try again harder. They do not encourage this to students in public high schools

you didn't pass ALGEBRA 1 though...nor could you demonstrate your ability to meet the standard

Well they gave you something they thought you could handle so you could get on with your life. If they had held you to the standard that you clearly weren't at, you'd have been kicked out of school.

The bar was lowered for you and you're STILL bytching.

College is a privilege.

In the real world if you fail you have to get up and try again harder. They do not encourage this to students in public high schools

Yet you're mad YOU went to college and they lowered the bar for you? :pachaha:...why are you mad again?

cause if you really want this, you'd have been kicked out.

Also by not allowing me to retake algebra I was not able to take more challenging courses in science like chemistry......imagine if a parent tells a child he cannot ride a bike because that child busted his knee trying to ride one for the first time. So instead of forcing that child to try again, the parent says 'no, take these training wheels, because you will never learn to ride a regular bike'

Instead my school should of made me retake it in the summer, or at least made me take the following semester, or else I will not graduate along with my classmates
