:dwillhuh: the least y’all could do is give proper praise to the people who actually did the cgi. ILM were gods amongst men. The reason why the T1000 looks so good is because of their work on The Abyss. Jurassic Park would have been a totally different movie if weren’t for them.

That's because they only used the cgi to enhance the practical effects not replace them

Same with Jurassic park, the opening helicopter shot still looks phenomenal because it's real, not a green screen

the dinosaurs were built and are physical there cgi was just used to enhance them

CGI is better than practical effects, but its too expensive, to get real good quality CGI cost like 2 to 3 million dollars per minute
it takes too much computer and too much time to render as well, so they cheap out

The mixture of practical and cgi made movies back then look so much better. Everything now is cg from the backgrounds to the animals to the vehicles. Nothing is real. And it detaches me from a lot of these flicks especially movies that shouldn't need to use the effects but its more convenient for them than to shoot on location

I think so too. In fact I think the T-1000 is so powerful that they had to resort to gimmicks to try and make the following terminators seem more bad ass, but none of them seemed nearly as menacing to me.

The T-1000 was about as elite as it gets for villains.

Some of the best CGI work is when the camera is steady, and it doesn't involve action. Most of the shots where the CGI shows the repair happening, is when it allows the viewer to get it.

A ton of movies now have CGI as a part of the action. However the best CGI in those movies is the actual background, and not from the effects themselves because they appear as a 'blur', leaving your mind to imagine it having effect.

Plus going into Scorsese's bag, but where Terminator 2 also holds a high standard, is that the movie itself is about two things:
  • John Connor FINALLY finding a Father Figure in his life.
  • Sarah Connor BECOMING a Terminator but gradually becoming a Human again, and a Mother for John.
Those themes of Parenting overlay a Science Fiction movie, and why its without a doubt one of the best movies ever and will be Cameron's Magnum Opus.
Jurassic Park and T2 to this day have the best use of CGI and it's telling that out of all the 90s movies, the two movies to do it first also had it age the best compared to say...Men In Black and ID4, which are straight  nowadays. Even Phantom Menace looked like a pre-rendered Dreamcast cutscene half the time.

It's hard to empathize with the action of a bunch of CGI models as opposed to real people and props.

classic. turned 30 last month

and even though in the franchise the T1000 is "Weak" compared to the likes of the Termatrix or whatever was in Dark Fate... t1000 > all of'em

100%.

The original in-universe reason for why more T1000's were never mass produced makes the original T1000 even more badass compared to the Terminators that came after (in both canon and just as movie villains).

According to the novelizations, the original T1000 in Terminator 2 was a prototype that basically had a mind of it's own (or more like, thousands of nanobot minds working together to form an autonomous creature), unlike other terminators that were in read-only mode. Skynet feared that they wouldn't be able to control the T1000 model and that the self aware model would go rogue and do their own thing independent from their mission, which might include killing Skynet, which had Skynet reluctant to ever actually activate the T1000:hubie:

The original Terminators didn't feel remorse, but they also didn't feel pleasure or anything else.

The T-800 completing a termination was like:unimpressed:

But the T-1000 completing a termination was like:demonic::mjlit:

And that difference terrified Skynet

I think we get a bit of that enjoyment-beyond-the-mission streak in T2, as the T1000 develops a sadistic personality, waves a finger at victims, and seems to enjoy killing and observing its death blows

So even with fewer "features" than the T-X or whatever, the T1000 was actually more dangerous because it had the capability of becoming sentient without a flip being switched, developing a personality, and motivations independent of Skynet, and Skynet had no idea what would happen if they activated this new creature of their creation. They only did so out of desperation. But Skynet feared that thing:francis:

That’s why I’m surprised more studios aren’t using the same technology that the Mandalorian used with the almost 360 degree LCD screen & unreal engine to avoid using green screen.

anyway, terminator 2 is incredible and I’m particularly fond of it because my aunt who was later murdered when I was 11 secretly bought it for me on VHS at a yard sale when I was like 8 years old and she knew my mom normally wouldn’t have let me watch it. GOAT action movie imo
