I would have had John Connor grow up. But if you’re going to kill him, do it right. They changed the future. So there’s a bunch of people alive who shouldn’t be. So, how about he becomes a school principal, and dies saving a student during a school shooting or something? Or he becomes a senator, and about to fukk up people’s money, because he’s going to pass legislation putting regulations on tech companies and AI, and ultimately killed for it. You still have him become the leader he was meant to be, but killed by the very people he saved. That’s some thanks for your ass, and Sarah can still be pissed the fukk off. I don't think that trope applies here. They're only the "chosen one" because of time travel. They've already grown into saviors. It's complicated, but this isn't Neo shyt.

T2 showed AI can learn and be reprogrammed. shyt it showed they can reprogram themselves if the mission calls for it. The way it’s laid out in this movie, is he had no more mission. He observed and learned over the years and simply became the support system for a woman and her son when they needed support. It’s not about him boo loving; it’s protection. Terminators, at least so far, have two functions in Cameron’s eyes: protection or killing. So all he did was reprogram to protect this woman coming from a very abusive relationship and her son. That’s it. Again, context. Seeing the movie and the way its executed enhances the perspective and the argument

But yeah not surprising this bombed. After the last three flicks, they should have made sure Cameron was directing. And they should have seriously insisted on him, if they were gonna dump 200mill into this

Why isn't Cameron more hands on with the terminator franchise? Does he just not care anymore? The reason the rambo flicks are still good is because of Stallone's input

I did some research and it appears his involvement in this has been overblown. His endorsement of this as well as the last flick, Genisys, was largely just to try to help some of his buddies (namely Arnold who he has massive respect for) make some money.

He said after T2 that he didn't think it should be a franchise and that he thought there was no story left to tell. At the same time, he was fine to let other people make their movies off his IP. And that's pretty much remained the case. He will give some feint praise of any of the movies that feature Arnold (Salvation is the only one he never really gave any support for at the time) and then once the dust settles he admits that he didn't think it was that good.

This video does a great job of breaking it down if you guys are interested, but basically he feels like we do that the story ended perfectly after T2 and there was no where else that he personally felt the story was worth taking. He said "the soup has been pissed in." That being said if he can make some side cash on it, and help his good friends Arnold and Linda Hamilton profit from it, then he's usually fine with that.

I don't ever expect him to be significantly involved with another one.
