He was born in 1999 why would he know that Will Smith rapped? My cousins born in 03' , 04, and 05' only know him as "Jaden's actor dad"

Being born in 1999 is no excuse to not know that Will Smith used to be a rapper.I mean the guy does have parents. You mean to tell me all of those time he sat down and watched Fresh prince of Bel Air., neither his Mom or Dad, told him that Will Smith is a rapper? I am about 9 years older then this cat and I know artists such as James Brown, Smokey Robinson, The Tempations. New Edition, Atlantic star and other old school artists.Being young is no excuse for not knowing the artists from the past. It's just that too many people are biased about music that they didn't grow up with or that think is too dated. When I was younger I used to think some of the music my parents played was straight garbage. It wasn't until I brought Grand Theft auto San Andreas when it came out 2004 and started to hear some of the music that my parents would play and actually listened to the music I started to dig 80s Hip hop and R&b nusic.

Our generation had extensive knowledge and appreciation of music that came out when we were toddlers, and even before we were born..Quap's generation deals with disposable music, they have little time or care for what came out even 3 years ago.

How old is suppose to be to know??? And why criticize him for learning on his own? I know grown people who never heard of certain popular old rappers because they weren't interested to know.

Why knock someone who prior wasn't thinking about old music until THIS YEAR? Most teenagers or younger were trying to think of even wonder what their parents were listening to nor the parents always going to school them.

Some parents aren't even into hip hop to even care. Give credit that he WANT to learn on his own. And keep in mind he's only 18. The last time Will Smith dropped an album was the year he was born.

how old were you in 2004 when you started hearing that shyt on GTA? I would assume you were about this kids age, he's still only 19. I was about 15/16 when I started checking more for Run DMC & older 80's stuff in the mid 90's.

Regarding the age issue and whether he's heard artists or not: I'm :old: and have listened to HipHop since @ 5th or 6th grade. I've listened to a ton of HH music over the years.

My children would be just as lost as Guap is though regarding rappers/music. There's so much cursing/misogyny/violence/sexism/etc (in the music that I listened to) that i didn't play too much HH around them when they were growing up. They could tell you that I love Marvin Gaye, EW&F, Stevie, etc....but they'd have no clue that Richie Rich from the 415 is one of my all time favorite rappers. It's was way easier to throw on something different in the house that I don't have to censor or explain...

im 32...i work on a college campus and employ students...they ...dont...know..shyt!

it blew my mind at first but I had to put it together that alotta this shyt dropped before they were born and with so much content now, who really tryna bump shyt from 25-30 years ago?

but some of these kids are going back and educating themselves...and we still mad? that's stupid as shyt

everybody dont have the person to put them on like that...and nowadays you can curate the shyt out of your life and just not come across or scroll past certain things

you cant apply your experience to everyone else's especially if you a old nikka talking bout 19 year olds...your 19 is not their 19..its impossible to be..its just a different time.

personally, i grew up with my grandparents...they banned rap in our house..all i heard was Sam Cooke, Curtis Mayfield and Canton Spirituals and i mean thats literally all they played...i put myself onto music and i didnt bother going back in time until I was in college..so when dude say he didnt know or never heard...i take that at face value...i get it :ehh:

So if neither his mum or Dad did, what now? That's such a narrow minded way to view his access to older music. Not everyone has someone to put them on. Not all parents put their kids on to music or knowledge about things before them. So it sounds silly to me that you would have a go at him for that.

Look I wasn't trying to hate on dude, matter of fact I like watching him react to songs and artists he doesn't know about. But some of the songs he is reacting to and claiming he doesn't know are pretty popular songs so it's not believable to me that he would not know certain songs . Yesterday I was watching him react to Baby got back and he was claiming he never heard the song before.I mean come on, I am not excepting him to know every word to the song but he should at least know the song. Everyone and their Grandma knows that song. Maybe it's different for me, because my Mom was born in 1962 and my Dad was born in 1965 and not only did I grow up listening to 80s and 90's hip hop and R&b, my parents also played a lot of music from their childhood so I grow up listening to Michael Jackson, Prince, Bobby Brown as well as The Temptations, James Brown ,Luther Vandross, Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Marvin Gaye and a whole lot artists from the past and present.
