:yeshrug: its a first reaction and not a review so it is what it is. i remember i missed a lot of what Jay was saying on my first listen too so it adds to the authenticity.

one thing i did notice tho is that the boy seems to be very biased against Jay, possibly due to the type of Jay music he grew up with since he probably has never listened to any of his 90s output or anything before 99 Problems. Even when he himself admitted that Jay's performance on the freestyle was undeniable, he kinda downplayed it a little by saying that something still felt a little off in comparison to Big L, which is fair since its his own opinion, but I never once felt that way even if I thought Big L was better on the freestyle.
HE seemed to really like Jay's second verse with the boo boo boo boo bam goo goo goo godamn and all that other shyt we mock mercilessly here on the Coli :prodigylol2:

And Jay-Z also realized that his flow was hindering him. His voice is a little better than average but that's about it. So he improved that over time and once he got into his Vol 2 pocket, it was game over. I totally understand when younger people go "ehh, I dunno about Jay-Z" because a lot of older heads keep giving the youngstas RD to listen to. That's not where you start with Jay-Z. Vol 2 - Black Album is Jay-Z at his best.
This is 100% wrong :gucci:
Jay's flow was hindering him? :mjlol:

You can tell he's not really feelin this song like that, and I totally agree. I've always said "On The Run" is Kool G Rap's masterpiece. I love the throwbacks but I don't want to see flabbys in the comment section hyping up dated tracks that didn't stand the test of time. Frauds like to think that because they were around in that era and being sheep that somehow they know hip hop better. When in fact, a kid today has the potential to understand hip hop on a level deeper than most pretenders who were in that era. For the simple fact that the great stuff stands the fukk out. An OG once said "you'll know better what has lasted than I would."

This is also 100% false. Road to the Riches didn’t stand the test of time? :gucci:
Kids can understand hip hop on a deeper level than someone who was around and cognizant back then? :gucci:
And the kid liked this song, he just thought On The Run was better.

That song is a TERRIBLE introduction to Wu Tang. I knew he wouldnt like it. They shouldve recommended Protect Ya Neck, METHOD man, Can It Be That It Was All So Simple, or some shyt like that. U introduce nikkas to Wu with them speakin that fly shyt. NOT Triumph.

Yeah... I kinda expected this too. He saw C.R.E.A.M. and seemed to dig that one.

And if we're keepin' it a buck... there were some folk in '97 who felt the same way about much of Wu-Tang Forever as opposed to how they checked for Wu's 93-96 shyt. The same folk who felt 'CREAM' and 'Method Man' weren't all the way on board with joints like 'Triumph'. Classic joint for sure, but I could see how you could get to those U-God/RZA/GZA/Masta Killa verses and be like :francis:

Bro I could barely even stomach Triumph anymore. Lol. Which is crazy cause it was one of my fav tracks back then.

The 'Make Em Say Unnnh' reaction is classic. And it actually reinforced my feeling toward the song too, cause I swear it was lit in '98 but listening to it today is like... why. Mia's still dope, but the rest can kick rocks.
