Teenage boy kills girlfriend's father in spat over 'inappropriate' social media posts
A Florida teenager is in custody charged with killing his girlfriend's father after they got into a heated argument over 'inappropriate' social media photos.Lawan Jr. Jones, 18, turned himself into cops three days after going on the run last Monday.
His girlfriend's father, 44-year-old Keith Poole, was shot several times out the front of his own home in Pompano Beach, Florida.
Witnesses later said Mr Poole was shot in front of his three children.
Jones was in a relationship with Mr Poole's daughter, Jessie, and lived in the home with Mr Poole and his family.
Authorities said witnesses recalled an argument between Jones and Mr Poole, after the protective father saw social media posts which he thought were inappropriate.
According to the arrest affidavit, seen by DailyMail.com, the witness told police on the scene that Mr Poole 'became aware that the suspect had posted photographs on social media of himself holding a firearm.'
'She said the victim told Jones that it was not appropriate for him to do that while living in his house, and that he would have to leave.'
The witness went on to tell police that Jones was incensed by the confrontation and 'threatened that he could have his friends come over and ''take care of the problem''.'
This prompted Mr Poole to once again insist Jones leave his home, guiding him to the front door and standing at his doorway.
The affidavit states: 'The witness stated that Jones took several several steps away from the front door, then turned around, pulled a handgun over a satchel slung over his right shoulder and pointed it at the victim.
'Jones then fired two shots, hitting the victim in the face and chest. The witness noted the victim was not being aggressive and posed no physical threat tot he suspect.'
The arrest affidavit reveals police on the scene saw 'an open front door with blood inside and outside the immediate area of the door.'
Jones' Facebook page includes several pictures of and references to Jessie.
This includes photos taken on a 'baecation' from December 2023, along with a more recent trip to Beachwood, Ohio which includes videos of the couple and a picture of a drawing in the snow of a heart with the letters 'L + J' in the middle.
Tributes have been pouring in for the dedicated father, who has been remembered as an 'amazing human' who people gravitated toward.
One loved one said: 'The way you raised and cared for your children was unmatched, you would do anything to make sure everyone around you was good.
'His aura alone spoke volumes.'
Another wrote: 'You were a true legend in Miami.
'You were so kind to all of us, we made great memories. You will be truly missed. You are now a star in the universe and will shine forever.'
A Go Fund Me has been set up to help financially support his young family in the wake of the tragedy.
Lawyers acting on behalf of Jones have issued a demand for discovery and a demand for a jury trial to fight the charges.
