things said about Bush was satire what Ted Nuget said was straight up racist.

But this is the same dude who bought a 15 year old and kept her until she was of age to marry her.
Ted Nugent's music caters to subhuman mongrels in the Tea Party.

Any artist who makes songs such as Little Miss Dangerous and Wang Dang Sweet Poontang needs psychotherapy.

How racist is Texas that the gubernatorial candidate calculates that isn't hurtful to his candidacy and he doesn't really need to distance himself from it at all though?

The GOP has formulated a cold political calculus that alienating the racist vote isnt currently of benefit to them as a party. "Reaching out" , or becoming more inclusive will drive away their core constituency of bigots (and there isnt much of a guarantee they can replace them with independents and people of color), which, presently speaking, is a risky strategy statistically.

As much of a fool as George W. was, his admin realized that long term the GOP was staring down a demographic death spiral, by continuing to pander to white males exclusively. Bush elevated blacks and hispanics to prominent positions, pretty much removed Trett Lott from Senate leadership after the Strom Thurmond fiasco (imagine if Lott made those statements today...he'd be a gop hero), and aggressively courted hispanics. These gestures and outreach were paying dividends with respect to the minority vote.

Obama's ascendency made it too easy for the GOP to appeal and reify their white base w/o much effort, which acts in collaboration with the fact that appealing to minorities takes a fair amount of effort. Being that they are lazy, and the southern strategy has been so important to their strength, the GOP is resigned to remain the white party, and have abandoned long term strategizing, until they are literally forced to do otherwise. They're putting the party's future on credit.

I agree, but this strategy seems particularly more feasible, at least for the short-term, in certain states and regions, like Texas. I mean, I live in everybody's favorite punching bag, Florida, but nobody running for Governor of Florida would ever campaign with fukking Ted Nugent, much less stand tall with him after he calls Obama a subhuman mongrel. The cacophony in Texas must be turned up to 10.

I live in Texas, and I can tell you from experience that the cacophony levels might actually approach 13-15.

white people are openly racist in certain areas out here, there's a walmart in this town called Tomball which is just outside of Houston, and you can feel the racism pumping through the air vents. I was the only Black person in there when I went and I will never return unless my life depended on it. White men walking around with leather vests on with BARE CHEST under them, no tee shirt or anything. I wouldn't have been surprised to hear "there's a ****** on aisle 6" over the intercom.

The GOP has been pretty effective in staying true to their coded strategy by drowning their text in seemingly ambiguous phraseology like "small govt", and "welfare state" that are music to racists ears; but they've become pretty emboldened during the Obama admin. They seem to be aware they can tap into a wider range of deepening white resentment that wasnt available previously when the country was a bit more sensitive to race. They have more latitude now then ever before, and they can swat claims of racism away with ease, because the conservative bubble pushes back on race so effectively. With that, Nugent has been wildin for a minute, saying sht he wouldnt have been able to get away with 15 years ago, and he's remained popular in conservative circles because of that. Abbot definitely overplayed his hand tho, and got too comfortable because Nugent went WAY over the top even for the GOP. Abbot's flirting with danger, and im not sure if "the bubble" can inoculate him.

What still makes me scratch my head, is why conservatives have gone so hard at hispanics. Bush made inroads with that group for obvious demographic reasons, and its one they could have continued to woo. They went above and beyond to offend them in recent years. Im sure they could have continued to insult blacks, while trying to at least play lip service to hispanics, but they said "fukk it".

It's feasible for state politics but will continue to fail nationally. The lesson of the 2012 election should have been that the power of the minority vote, specifically Hispanics, now determines elections. The black vote was quite strong as well - the black voting % was the same as in 2008, which is something conservatives claimed couldn't possibly happen.

As @No_bammer_weed said, the GOP has decided to invest in white racism for short term gain, while putting off the inevitable changes that will happen sooner or later. They have torn the country apart for 5 years by attempting to castrate Obama politically, and all it has done is destroy the GOP's poll numbers while simultaneously ensuring the economy stays stagnate.

The problem is that there aren't enough white voters to save the GOP. The currently republican spin is that they'll somehow increase the white vote in 2016, but it's not going to happen. The white vote is falling because more whites are dying off than joining voter rolls - not because there are mythical white non-voters out there in the woods, waiting to be collected. To make matters worse, the next democrat nominee will be white, and thus do better amongst white voters than Obama. Hillary Clinton will get more than 39% of the white vote, bet on it. If she gets just 45% of the white vote, 60% of the Hispanic vote, and 90% of the black vote there's literally no way she'll lose, end of story.

I guarantee the GOP response to this will be to further radicalize; yall think they hate a black man in the White House, just wait until Hillary moves in there brehs. They're going to go insane all over again. And given how effective they are at shutting down government progress, they'll probably do enough hard to win the 2018 midterms; that victory, just like the 2010 victory, will convince them they don't need to change their message. And then in 2020 Hillary will win re-election (seriously, it's hard as fukk for presidents to lose re-election in this modern era). By 2020, Texas will start looking a bit purple. Florida will be solid blue. It's game over for the modern GOP brehs.
