You know why it's relevant? Because when election time rolls around conservatives try to pitch the idea that the Republican Party isn't a haven for backwards thinking racists despite the overwhelming evidence on the contrary. Every single election cycle they come out with:

'Well LBJ said xyz 40 years ago'

'The Democrats are just as racist if not more so than Republicans'

'Republicans care more about helping Black people than Democrats'

Etc, etc, etc.

It's important to remind ourselves of the reality of the opposition that we face. Know your enemy, know yourself, so you don't get bamboozled and pimped like Ben Carson. Any party that's looking for an endorsement from Ted Nugent can't have my vote.

In response to the frenzy over Nugent, Abbott campaign spokesman Matt Hirsch said that Abbott does not “endorse or agree with” everything Nugent says, but added that they welcome “the support of everyone who supports protecting the Constitution.”

"He is a forceful advocate for individual liberty and constitutional rights — especially the Second Amendment rights cherished by Texans,” Hirsch said.

How racist is Texas that the gubernatorial candidate calculates that isn't hurtful to his candidacy and he doesn't really need to distance himself from it at all though?
