it needs to happen, because if the company is bloated they will have layoffs...its inevitable

Rather than laying off individual contributors, get rid of the slew on managers that don't do shyt. I much rather this than hearing they are killing entire departments like they did last year. This is the first amazon layoff that I dont have a problem with.
None if it is justified when Amazon reports record profits year after year. Once again, who does eliminating 14k managerial positions help? Yall have really drank the koolaid if you believe all these wide spread layoffs happening around the country will benefit you in any way :mindblown: at anyone ok with thousands of employees being laid off anywhere let alone a profitable company whether it be management or not

A lot of times they add zero value to the business or the work you do for the company. Useless meetings and check-ins that are more of a hindrance to getting your work done. You can argue you need a few of them but a lot of times big companies end up hiring way too many of them . Waste of money
Who's money?? Corporate dollars?? Yall are talking as if the money they are paying managers are coming from tax payers

Record profits don’t mean shyt when we are likely headed to a recession. Companies are trying to get as lean as possible now.

And yes people losing their job sucks but if it’s gonna be someone I MUCH rather it be managers.

Do you know how layoff cycles and URA normally work in big tech? Those same managers you are worried about are fukking brutal and bias as fukk. Their VP gives them a number to cut and they just start going through their direct reports and picking people off. Most of the time it’s rarely about performance, they usually protect their friends, people of the same race, etc

I’ve seen it happen countless times. Firing really good employees because they aren’t tight with the manager like that or from India.

This is the first layoff since I’ve been there that as close to fair as possible. They are ACTUALLY getting rid of wasteful positions. I know it bothers you but I’m good with it :manny:

Maybe I Just had a misunderstanding of it, I was always under the impression that IT especially cyber security were one of those guaranteed to always have a job degrees like nursing.

You got to want it. People getting degrees that don't want it bad enough. It's some autistic white nerd out there that hasn't showered in 3 days hacking away on his computer right now. You got to be better than him. A degree not cutting it anymore.

US Companies just don't want to pay these higher tech wages. And there is enough talent globally where they don't have to anymore. Every year the amount of US based tech workers shrinks at my company.

More American tech workers will probably start relocating overseas to stay employed. Federal contractors have been doing this for years working for Defense Contractors.

Why would they relocate overseas to stay employed? Maybe your wording was off when you made this post?

The young lady you posted moved overseas but i don’t think it was to stay employed.

I work for a Fortune 500 and they are moving people around to fill technology positions or hiring contractors/vendors.

So moving L1, L2 tech support into more dev roles etc.

I honestly don’t know but when I was applying for jobs in tech back in 2018 it was competitive than too. A lot of people want big money and that’s the issue. Finding a low tech position that paid 40-60k a year was a lot easier than say the 100k+ positions with benefits

The employer/employee dynamic is off balanced.

I think it's time for a nationwide 2-4 week boycott and strike of all employers.

Something to let them know the work relationship is 50/50, that they're aren't just doing people a favor by hiring someone.
There is no unity among tech workers. As a group we are crabs in a barrel at worst or "keep your head down" type of people at best.

That's why we don't have a major Union, despite all of our major tech companies being based in blue, liberal, pro-union jurisdictions.

It doesn't help that a disproportionately high amount of tech people come from one particular country known to abuse their employees. Theyd probably come in during your boycott and work double shifts for head pat:mjpls:

Trump presidency. AI. Rebalancing the power dynamic in the job market. A terrible job market overall, etc

Tech is in the can. How is that not obvious?

I saw this play out while working contract jobs in the Federal sector. To stay employed tech workers had to take overseas jobs. Because all the tech jobs stateside dried up. With more US companies setting up operations overseas they'll be way more opportunities in other countries. I don't ever see the US tech job market bouncing back. Corporations are too used to lower wages and outsourcing. At my company for every US employee that leaves their job gets backfilled by an overseas employee.
