North Jersey but I miss Cali :sadcam:
If so many people are getting laid off, I’m inclined to think there’s been a lot of people that wasn’t doing much to begin with. A task that consists of 4 parts was broken down into 400 parts.

And a lot of people in this space only care about the money and not the work. :manny:

I’m talking about tech jobs

I think you three are talking around the issue instead of addressing it. Its an issue of semantics

in most contexts Internet Technology != Tech.

After about 2012, "tech" was delineated from the word technology and became synonymous with the big SAAS internet companies and primary hardware manufacturers . It mostly refers to software work and has nothing to do with the underlying network infrastructure or security systems of that software.

The few exceptions to this are when you work directly for the literal infrastructure companies like Cisco, Nvidia , Dell, VMware etc that design the equipment used in network infrastructure and security systems. Alternatively , if you worked directly on software for cybersec firms like palo alto or okta you could be "tech" too.

Its your direct employment to these competive firms that makes you tech. Not your relation to technology.

She took the trip

I was in Australia last year and it was a vibe lowkey.

Went to Melbourne and Sydney on my way to Bali.

Planning to move out there, because they have a decent tech scene and comparable wages.

One of the homies moved there a few years ago and said it was the best thing he's ever done.

When I was living in Johannesburg (South Africa), I came across many a local who'd been there or had some relative that had migrated there all for better opportunities.

man, interviewing with a large tech company I been wanting to work for for years, it went really well and the hiring manager wants to move me forward, but he got a promotion and the role has been up leveled to a people manager role, I don’t think they’ll continue to consider me, these big companies have much higher thresholds for group/director level roles :(

Frustrated in my current role as other departments in the company don't have an emphasis on quality and compliance, so the burden ends up falling on my department who have to sign on behalf of everyone else and the fukk ups along with it.

I got the money and new location that I wanted though, so I shouldn't be complaining :yeshrug:

I'm in the same boat. I make great money. It's a cushy job without much day to day responsibility. But I'm unhappy as hell because there is no accountability across the company. Things constantly fukk up and shoulders are just shrugged. On top of that upper management changes direction on us every six months that leads us to planning in a panic due to their poor planning.

Our problem is eventually going to solve itself when the government steps in and fines the company like they did other aerospace and defense companies. It’s only a matter of when, not if IMO.

It’s just making sure we don’t get caught in the crossfire when that happens.

Is it remote?

If so, thats the perfect setup for a secondary/side job. Find yourself a real primary job and coast on that second one.

I have a side job now with a canadian startup and these MFs are like children. People always changing and breaking shyt, and nobody knows whats going on half the time. No change control, no standups, no leadership, nothing...

Sometimes I can go weeks without doing anything because its so much chaos. And when they do throw a project my way, I know they are going to abandon it in a month or so, or lose track of it because there are no real PMs.

Yes it's remote. Only problem is I have some days loaded with meetings. Been looking for a side gig to go with this one. And sad part my company is well established and has around 15,000 employees. Our product management team is new.
