Second-year quarterback
Ryan Tannehill has led the
Miami Dolphins to a 3-0 record, tied with the
New England Patriots atop the AFC East. In the process, he has completed 66.4 percent of his passes. That's better than the completion rates of second-year stars
Andrew Luck,
Robert Griffin III and
Russell Wilson.
He's going to have an interesting test in Week 4, though, against the
New Orleans Saints. New defensive coordinator Rob Ryan has quickly turned around a Saints defense that was historically bad last season, and they are sure to be overly aggressive in trying to get to Tannehill on Monday night.
After three games, Tannehill has proved to be quite successful when being blitzed, according to ESPN Stats & Information. He has thrown four touchdowns and zero interceptions, while posting a 75.4 QBR in those situations. He's only been sacked six percent of the time on blitzes, but opponents have only blitzed him on 34 percent of his dropbacks. The Saints attack often and successfully, though. Through their first three games, the Saints D has blitzed on 41 percent of dropbacks, while holding opposing QBs to two touchdowns, one interception and a QBR of just 41.6. They've also successfully sacked quarterbacks on 15 percent of their blitzes.
The Dolphins O-line has graded out positively by Pro Football Focus thus far, though they are a middle-of-the-pack 13th. They will have their hands full Monday night, as they try to keep Tannehill protected and able to get good passes off in the face of regular blitzes. Unfortunately, running backs
Lamar Miller and
Daniel Thomas have been weak in pass protection as blockers, and they aren't the only Fins who can be beaten.
ESPN Dolphins reporter James Walker
took a look at the five sacks Tannehill suffered against the
Atlanta Falcons last week and felt there was plenty of blame to go around -- he charged one each to Tannehill and Thomas, while the O-line and TE
Dion Sims took the blame for 1.5 each.
How well the Fins can keep the Saints' defensive attack at bay will be one of the keys to the outcome of Monday's game.
