who's not united? middle class/upper middle class blacks seem fairly united. we're not united with poor blacks, but i don't know that such a disconnect is a bad thing. on some level, i think it's by design, where middle class black families make a conscious decision to separate themselves from those in the hood. we try to lend moral support to the struggle endured by the poor, but think that assistance comes with a certain degree of ambivalence. at the end of day, we ask ourselves, "is it even worth trying to help these people?"
i agree with those who feel that there are pockets of poor blacks who are trying to do something. but let's be real: a great number of them are infecting our community, polluting the minds of our impressionable children, and creating an image of black america that is wholly unrepresentative of who we are as a people. cacs are going to cac. but something needs to change on our end.
