I have no problem with it.....matter of fact I love it.

It's teaching DISCIPLINE and basically how to turn on and off your slang depending on certain situations, which is an extremely important skill to have.

You'd be surprised how many folks young and old are totally unprofessional and have no idea the concept of being professional at certain times and not using outside slang talk.

I'll never forget the time I was traveling and I was at one of those travel plazas on I95 entering Connecticut. I was in line at the subway and one of the young black male workers used the Nword towards one of his coworkers in a joking manner.

I remember cringing so hard on the inside and legit feeling sorry for the bruh. Everybody heard him and kind of looked around at each other in amazement and shock. I felt second hand embarrassment for him .

If you're not teaching your kids and the youth in your circle this already hold this L.

If they’re turning in assignments with these terms then sure.

I for one hate the discourse around AAVE/Ebonics but shyt like this just validates some of what that crowd says about people’s perception of “proper” English.

A good teacher would have found a better way to address the issue of slang usage in the classroom and in writing.

If this teacher wasn't lazy, they'd teach the kids how to code-switch and why it's important instead of just doing this blanket ban on words shyt.

This is a lazy teacher with zero teaching skill or imagination who makes teachers in general look bad.

She has slang in her write up, "gibberish" is slang. You can't ban the word "motion" and keep the word "gibberish"

I understand to a certain degree, I can get not wanting the children to be yelling out "ooh we skee yee" while you're trying to teach but banning the word "bet" is a bit much.

If this is an English class perhaps the best route is to dedicate a portion of study to slang and its origins and the context etc. Cause I guarantee this teacher is using slang on a regular basis unknowingly. Even saying "OK got it" meaning that you understand is slang, language is ever evolving, this seems like a case of an old wet dog not wanting to learn new tricks.

"Bling bling" been in the oxford dictionary for over a decade now, in protest I would be abusing the fukk outta instances like that in class.

No, it's exactly about code switching. These kids need to know how to do it before they can do it. How do you expect these kids to be prepared to switch into academic or professional settings easily if their teachers are too lazy to teach them how and why to do it?

No it doesn’t, being professional is not code switching
code switching is cultural
unless you thinking being professional and academic is “acting white”
