But most people don’t go to Sade for lyrics we just like the way her voice sound over the beautiful production. Which is perfectly fine
:dahell:
Who are these most people, they sold millions so I guess you have sampled a few thousands cause I don’t know anyone who like them doesn’t love the lyrics to their songs.

Any time I hear his name is “hating” on the low, and people on here quoting him line it’s Kendrick.

Yet he’s been afraid to release his own shyt for 15 years, just riding Kendrick’a dikk like he’s the one making his music

The thing is it’s not about having a “message” but about having a distinct personality and coherent bars

Drake, Future, Gunna and Thug don’t have a “message” to their music but their writing has a distinct POV. The songs have quotables. They all have songs with topics where they talk about bytches, life or whatever topic

Travis has no identity in his raps. His verses are basically word salad. No quotable, no humor, no wit, no story, no cultural references, nothing. Just AI generated lines

[Verse 1]
Like my time, like my juice (Sweet, sweet)
We been downstairs in the basement with the moves (Sweet, yah)
Shout my town, shout my troops (Shout, shout)
Shout my jeweler, made my chain look like Froot Loops, yuh (It's lit)
Come get a taste, come get a scoop (Scoop)
I done made it out the hood through all the hoops (Hula hoops)
I done finally found a way to make the loot (Make the loot)
Link up all my nikkas and my Jewels, yuh (High up)
Link up, link up, yuh, link up, pour my syrup (Yah)
Diamonds, yeah, they link up, link up
Go berserk, do some shyt you think of (Yah, yah)
Lean, lean, lean, all this lean, lean, lean
We might lean, lean, lean (Oh)
Smoke all my shyt (shyt)
Stop it, start again (Yah)

Breh but this song is fire. I think birds in the trap was a great album.

I never listen to Travis in any meaningful way before this record. I like listening to this. It sounds good. I can really give a shyt about what he has to say because it's like most rap now...empty as fukk the difference is this sounds good. Its cool for what it is. He will always be a fukking c00n for his perspective on police before he got popular though.

People keep saying Trav makes “soulless” and “heartless” music but I’ve heard his joints get spun at parties since 2014. He legit always got a hit in rotation. If the “feeling” is the vibe of the music and the fun you have hearing it when you’re partying and wasted, that’s more than enough. He doesn’t make music for you to sit at home with your headphones dissecting the bars. It’s stadium/arena and party music. And he does it masterfully.

nikkas hating on a dude that puts in EFFORT in making well crafted albums when that is practically over with from artists that dropped since 2018. How many well crafted albums have dropped the past 5 years from artists that debuted since 2018? I’ll wait. In 5 more years from now when these guys get older and the music continues to die out cause it’s no young rappers/artists making music like this, nikkas gonna BEG for something like this.

He basically calling it vibe music and he's not talking about shyt

To me, I love both types. Obviously the type of music that speaks to me AND is great sonically, are always the best to me personally.

Some people don't look for relatable content in music, they just want to zone out and have a good time and there's nothing wrong with that either imo.

Music is art, it can be whatever the artist wants. There is no "should." That being said, does Travis Scott have anything to say as an artist? No. Does he have any real individual voice or theme to his music? No. Which is why the features always steal the show, because you effectively go from the void that is Travis to an expressive artist, be that SZA or Drake or Future or Beyonce (all of whom sounded great on that album).

The weird thing with Travis is that it's not like he's a straight up horrible rapper. It's not neccessarily a Group Home or Magoo situation where they just seem out of their depth rapping (although i fukk with Lil Dap) but with Travis it's this unique situation of a superstar rapper having no personality. He stands for nothing. Seems a complete blank identity. His music has no demonstated any aspect of who he is. We talk about the effect that AI is gonna have on music but Travis is effectively an AI rapper. He's comes across less human than Chat GPT.

It's a weird situation. I can still enjoy the music but it is totally soulless, heartless music which in some ways epitomizes the times we're living in.
This is facts but Travis is like Hot sauce, he makes everything he’s involved with better

Travis ability to add to songs while not being quotable is fascinating to me
