They called them “Indians” for fukks sake. They were not, clearly, people from modern-day India.
This is akin to the same “conquistadors saw black people in the new world” claim when in reality they were just…darker than europeans. That doesn’t mean they were AFRICANS.
People do this same shyt with Olmecs and claiming they were africans
Not to mention, there’s NO evidence of this
