She said economically the most damage was more so done by the New Deal than slavery. Every (serious) scholar points to slavery as the core event for the disenfranchisement of African-Americans. By saying the New Deal was the core event you are essentially not only creating a giant ass timeline gap(ignoring reconstruction, Jim Crow, Black Codes and every other predatory laws prior to the 1930s that targeted AAs), but redefining what reparations means for AAs as you are downplaying the importance slavery played in disenfranchizing AAs.

I don't even have anything against AOC. But fact is she botched that reparations statement. And idk about TLR but the AADOS is not attacking left wingers randomly instead letting them know they want specifics and that they are not guaranteed a vote just because they are left-wing. Black people should vote their interests, and sitting out elections is never in our best interest. Sometimes that means just voting to keep the worse person out. There's nothing wrong with voting strategically.

That was a key snippet from her first sentence from that video. But anyways here is the full statement of the video.

People think reparations is reparations for slavery, but really, economically speaking, reparations are for the damage done by the New Deal and redlining because that is where we saw a compounding of the existing inequity from the legacy of slavery, where we drew red lines around black communities. We said white communities will get home loans and they will get access to the basic bedrock of wealth in America and this will be your heirloom and we gave white America the heirloom that appreciated overtime — that people still benefit from today and we did not give to African-American and Mexican communities, Puerto Rican communities.

AA Reparations is NOT for the damage done by the New Deal or redlining. That doesn't even make any damn sense. Instead just a way for her to loophole her people into. But... You're most likely not AA and so you wouldn't even understand this. She's basically redefining what our reparations is FOR. Like I said no seriously scholar one reparations(i.e Coates) ever states that th core damage was the New Deal(1930s). You're existentially adding a big ass timeline gap.
