Taraji and Gabrielle are just talking out they ass.

Your qualms with Hollywood are not relative to regular people and they both don’t have resumes to lead high budgeted films, and they damn well know this and trying to get public opinion on their side. I ain’t give a fukk when Monique came hooting and hollering and I don’t give a fukk now either

i don’t get what these brauds want folks to do. You want people to petition or sum?

They want us as black men to stand up and make some damn movies. There needs to be some sort of studio where all the black superpowers come together. There needs to be more content, there needs to be more movies with all star black cast. If they would work together they could consistently be working. It shouldnt matter if you have to work all the time,if your enjoying your work. Make 10 movies per year at 100K a piece,or make one movie a year for a million, whats the difference? Problem is looking at white actors and saying "Jennifer Anniston dont have to work this much:usure:". Okay, somebody has to suffer to build up the infrastructure.

The Cookie character had become played out towards the end of Empire's run mainly due to the writing. The fact that Fox didn't even bother to give Empire a proper ending should have a tell tale sign to her team that the Cookie spinoff wasn't going to be picked up.

It does seem like her team had no backup plan when the Fox one fell through although I question whether she should have wanted to do another long term TV gig right after Empire's end.

Once you get that label as a TV actor it's kind of difficult to break it, which is why I think someone like Anthony Anderson did the short term role on Law and Order.
law and order got cancelled when he was cast.

i didnt mean to imply that, but he was he was on when the show got cancelled. im sure if it were still going at the time he would have stuck with it
My bad. I'm surprised he didn't stick around long term the second go around considering it would be a consistent gig, but I'm guessing he just wanted to do it as a stopgap until something else came up.

These companies never went to pay. Funny enough Tyler Perry is notorious for underpaying actors too. But Taraji credits him with giving her a bag (500k).

I get what your saying but it's all greed. She was the star of Proud Mary and the movie bombed. If your not selling tickets your not usually going to get the big bag in Hollywood.

There's a reason TP works with new and unknown actors

This is a goofy thread

She made a statement about not getting endorsements off the Cookie character, and brehs dissed her and showed her real estate portfolio as if she is wrong. :dead:

“Firing everybody after Cookie,” she said. “Everybody had to f—kin’ go. Where is my deal? Where’s my commercial? Cookie was at the top of the fashion game. Where is my endorsement? What did you have set up for after this? That’s why you all haven’t seen me in so long. They had nothing set up.”
She is 100% right.

Quinta Brunson was doing Hulu and Olay commercials after season one of Abbott. Taraji should have gotten similar.

If Terrance Howard—or a black male actor starring in a hot TV show—made the same statement, I know the same posters criticizing Taraji would be defending him.

That's not necessarily true anymore. A lot has changed in the last 15 years.

TV has more prestige than movies now and plenty of big name actors have done TV shows in the past decade

Something just seems off about her to me personally. Her complaints about roles, which confirmed that she turns down good roles based on money (and thus harms her career/finances). The fact that she has a "team" in the first place as a supporting actress. The fact that she doesn't seem to get that Fox owns that Empire character, not her. Bragging about firing a bunch of people we can probably presume were majority black women and gay black men. Ehhhh.

Go look at her filmography over the last few years. Cash grabs on animated movies and that's about it. Even as dramas and non-comic movies make a come back now, she's nowhere to be seen. An era of Netflix handing out obscene bags to actors...nowhere to be seen. These are choices she has made and while Hollywood sucks for black people there are roles out there and money to be made.
Yep. It's the Monique thing all over again

And it's been spoken about lightly in a few of these black cinema threads but there is an issue with a lot of black people and lack of craftsmanship in lieu of bag chasing :francis: Taraji is in that Tyler Perry/Empire(for lack of a better term:mjlol: )tier of actors that do what are essentially higher budget soap operas and low brow comedies. She's invoking a level of prestige she's never had:manny:

I completely agree with her firing her team based on the circumstance but you do have a point about it being odd that she has a "team" in the first place

There's a thread from a few months ago about Terrance Howard saying he made $15,000 from Hustle and Flow and nikkas was :manny: because Howard wasn't even known like that before that movie

Don't make this a "y'all hate black women" issue

This is a standard response. I said endorsements off a hot TV show and your ass brings up a breakout, small Indie movie from 20 years ago as if it’s the same. :camby:

Read what she said and generate a relevant response.
