Tama Tonga Pops Off on Twitter about JR and Barnett's G1 Commentary

For the uninitiated, JR and Josh Barnett commentated NJPWs G1 Special shows and in most people's eyes did a pretty flabby job of it. Didn't know the name of Jay lethals finisher (they kept calling it a cutter), forgot people's names, allegedly called Tama and his brother Samoan, and came off like they were hand waving the lower card tag matches. Kevin Kelly and Don Callis were there, I saw them and heard them talking to each other, but they still used JR and Barnett for commentary. The whole thing has become a big mess with shyt being flung from side to side.

Which led Meltzer, who is friends with JR and has him as a source, to say on his WOR podcast that JR didn't have prep materials; to which some reporter pointed out that they did have prep materials;

The whole thing is a big ass mess.

Yeah, great as he is he's just not suited to call that style. Can't even pronounce Ingobernables properly, among other things.

He's a god damn Okie, of course he can't pronounce foreign words correctly.

I didn't think the commentary was terrible. It wasn't great or good, but decent at best.

He only mixed up the Briscoes on night 1. I'm sure he's never called there matches before. And he mixed up Ospreay and ZSJ once or twice.

Not knowing finisher names or storylines is being too picky, especially since the shyt they call isn't that much up to date with current product.

Jr just has no enthusiasm at all. We are used to JR yelling or getting angry or being surprised. He does nothing like that on AXxes.

He seems bored and it seems forced.

Josh Barnett has always been trash.

I know but what I'm saying is he's not great on that and he's seen a good portion of the wrestlers he should be catching up to how to call njpw effectively
