We'll it depends. Some denominations or churches need to have the person next Pastor voted in, some allow it to be passed on. But if a church is registered as anon profit, I think they have to have a board of directors. There's actually a few things they need based on the law, like I think you need to have bylaws or something

I don’t think that’s true. Some churches have trustees or a deacon board. Others are run solely by the pastor. Even if they have a board, a lot of times, the pastor still has all the power.

Maybe not exactly named a board of directors, but at least in New Jersey, your non-profit needs a board of something... I guess trustees or directors may be interchangeable terms here.
