I always thought floating in water made you hungry, period. My dad wouldn't take us to go use the sea-doo on the lake unless we packed half the fridge in the car.

I've taken an indoor water hiit class with those water weight vests and it felt great on the joints but dried up my hair.

I grew up in NYC and I can swim, you making excuses for your lack of aquatic expertise

All jokes aside, my girl was on the swim team in HS

Malt, all the female swimmers I knew in high school had that broad back and shoulder with square hips look. I hope the Dominican ass genes really overpowered that for your girl

Thankfully she only did it for one year and was really skinny in HS, it's hard to build muscles when everyone is calling you "flaca".

She was also on the Volleyball team but that was for all of HS, and black genes overpower all

My mom took my sister and I to a Boys & Girls club when I was 3, she said I jumped right in the pool on my own I don't ever remember getting actual lessons and my earliest memory of swimming is around 4-5 years old.

Thats whats up. We are def getting the kids in the water as early as possible. That and bikes. I want my kids to learn to doggie paddle the same time they are learning to walk. shyt is hard as hell now, my motor skill capacity is

Yeah, going as early as possible is the best way to learn.

It's not that hard my dude, just go to a pool and try in the 3-4 foot area to tread water, and then transition to swimming. Always remember, outside of some freak head injury as a grown man you're not going to drown in 4 feet of water, so trying to learn shouldn't be scary.

I have a pool at my gym that I practice at. I can get halfway from one end to the other w/o breathing, or the whole way if I doggie paddle. Main thing is coordinating breathing w/strokes, getting my kick game right, and treading water. I mean I really sink in a pool, I can float in salt water though. I will get it in time.

sounds like you can do a lil something. just get a friend that knows how to swim to show you proper technique. all it takes is having someone show you the right way ONCE. it's like riding a bike. you shouldn't have to pay for ongoing lessons. unless you wanna start competitive swimming and need to be technically fluent in every stroke.
learn freestyle from a friend ...master that ...then start playing with other strokes.

I need to get back up on my swimming game. There's pools at the gym but I don't know how often they clean that water. There's also a few pools in my apartment complex that I'll be in when it warms up again. I have no idea how to measure a pool though. How long is a lap in a typical gym pool?

Theres nowhere to swim consistently in NYC

I took a couple of lessons at Laguardia but that was damn near 20 yrs ago. Parents never took me to the beach. My wife is an excellent swimmer so I need to catch up. Plus I like it for cardio

The projects I grew up in (Bushwick) had a pool, but my parents never let me go in there, cause of how unsanitary it was. nikkas would be in there pissing and everything. My man told me once he saw a nikka beating his meat in the water. So I never got to go in. My mother would be like "go in the sprinklers"... I'd be the only nikka jumping around in the sprinklers while everyone was having fun in the pool... LOL

Not a lot of places to get ya swim on as a youngsta in the city, especially if you need someone to take you there.

25 meters is a typical gym/fintess club pool (jr olympic size). swimming laps in an olympic sized pool tho(50 meters) i've only been to one aquatic center in my area that has one tho..

My pops can't swim, and my ex couldn't either, they do what I like to call "controlled drowning" where they go under water and actually move in a horizontal line but can't stay on the surface. It's the funniest shyt, we go to the beach and my pops is 6"5, but won't go more than 8 feet from where the waves break. So, you see this giant black man hanging around with water near his bellybutton

I kinda got away from swimming since I been doing IF; it's hard to stick to my eating window after getting out from an intense (for me) lap session. Has me wanting to crush buildings. I'm actually debating whether or not I'm gonna swim during lunch or get on the elliptical/exercise bike. I hate getting amped up for swimming and then when I get there all the lanes are taken
