This ruling really has me fukked up. How can I feel safe even flying a plane again? You think the manufacturing-safety problems at Boeing are bad now? Just wait.
Same thing goes for all other areas of safety. Did you prefer your pork wormless and diseaseless? Did you like your automotive airbags certain to deploy? Well, the success of those regulations is no longer up to the experts—it’s up to the success of those industries’ abilities to convince nonexpert judges that the regulations mean what they say they mean.
We're now in a libertarian hellhole where
A corporation will challenge said regulation, arguing that the regulation exceeded the agency’s authority under its enabling statute. A court will interpret the statute, now without deferring to the agency’s interpretation of it, and will simply say, “yes, authority exceeded, agency action is unlawful.”
The scotus will not put a better interpretation in place; it will just strike down the agency’s regulation. The scotus won’t just replace good regulations with worse ones; it will just strike them down and let the regulated parties (car manufacturers, pork processors, airplane builders, etc.) do what they want. This is insane, and the only people that will care are nerds that post on political sub forums.
