So on John’s Earth was it Superman’s brother who escaped Krypton? Or did he take over his brother’s body?

I think Steel implied that "his" Superman reached a point when he had to choose between his Kryptonian people and the Earthlings, and he chose to side with the Kryptonians.

So, I guess THAT's the difference between the two universes. The "Alternate" Clark Kent didn't have Lois Lane and a family (because Lois was already taken by Steel) so maybe when his "brothers" showed up it was much easier to tempt him over to the Kryptonian side. And these particular Kryptonians aren't exactly nice.

See my thinking was there is no Clark Kent on Steel’s Earth. The part that connects Superman to Earth. Why he killed Lois was because it wasn’t him.

I think Irons did call him Kal-el in Kryptonese, but how would he know if he had been possessed? It would just look like Kal-el.

I keel wondering if that’s why we haven’t heard him speak.

I don't think its literally Zod. I'm taking him at face value when he says "brother" and assuming that he's another son of Jor-El. I think he has to be family in order to really make the audience think there's a *slight* chance that Clark would give in to him, and explain what happened in the alternate universe.

His symbol looks like a crooked S.

I never read the H’EL arc but it does match up to a lot of what Edge is doing.
