Don’t know if it’s been posted already, but if you want a pretty simple and quick method to unlocking the characters, play until you encounter one of the locked characters and win the match to unlock them. Then afterwards, close the game app and start it back up. This resets the 10 min cool down period the game gives you before encountering the next locked character. Then play another match and you should encounter another locked character afterwards. Win that match, and restart the game again.

It’s a bit tedious, but is a pretty quick alternative if you set the matches to 1 stock and turn off stage select.

@Roxx the King I've unlocked most of the characters already.
Not sure we're you're at but this might be something to look into if you still have quite a few left to unlock.

What rules is everyone playing on? I started with stock 5 matches and all items turned on. For serious matches I play stock 5 with all items turned off.
3 stock, no items, no time limit. Locally, random stage switch has all the overly gimmicky stages (eg, electroplankton, warioware, etc.) and excessively large stages (Temple, Great Cave Offensive, Temple of Light, etc.) turned off.

For serious play I run with Final Destination and Battlefield (or whatever it's called).
I'll throw the OG zelda stage and that other Zelda stage in the mix for fun.
I don't rock with any of those stages that move, or completely change into something else mid-fight.
