CP3 even did them a favor by leaving money on the table with the deal that he took. He ended up getting less than what Lowry got.

They're going to give him a max eventually. They have no choice. I think they just want to motivate him. Ayton is one of those players that has to be pushed. They don't want him to get comfortable after he gets paid.

It is embarrassing that this leaked though. Ayton was the #1 pick and a lot of his peers already got a max. Ayton had a great playoff run. The only player that gave him trouble was Giannis going god mode.
