i think this is a great idea.

It is. I'm sure there were people who felt like having Kirk and Uhura kiss was pandering too and an abomination and would ruin generations of kids. Or even the fact that Uhura was allowed to not only be a smart capable woman, but a smart capable black woman on a ship full of men. Or the fact that a Russian was allowed on the show during the height of the cold war.

OG timeline Trek is TOS, TNG, DS9, Voyager, ENT. Yes the 60s wouldn't dare go for that angle, but 80,90s, tv was a lot more progressive...in any case, one's orientation wasn't a big deal.

They had more important shyt to worry about, like Romulan cloaks, exploding warp cores, and the Borg rather than if Dax is Lets Be Honest...

I don't see it as pandering either way especially because it's in the blood of Star Trek to be pregressive and push boundaries on a social front. The franchise is about equality and society moving to a better place as a whole with humanity truly being a beacon to the galaxy rather than a dark shadow. So while I understand George's issue with pegg and crew deciding it would be sulu, I do feel like there would be someone gay on the enterprise. Perhaps it makes a difference to a gay person out there that it's one of the main characters and not some side character that we won't follow for most of the movie and have no involvement with. I'm torn on it but I get where both sides are coming from

Don't really care about Sulu being gay in continuity but I will be a raging mad nerd if his kid is not a little girl named Demora.

We all assumed she was his bio daughter since she was Asian too. And not bad looking

I would assume not as the time line changed well before she was born.

What changes to the timeline occurred that would make Sulu gay this time around. What kind of Butterfly Effect shyt

So Demora doesn't exist this time around. Yet the new series will be in the original timeline. Dumb, the timeline is changed, stick with that.
