Wow, thanks. This beef was way before Mystikal signed to No Limit. He was still on Big Boy Records at the time. It isn't that well known because it was before Mystikal became the household name that he ended up becoming, but it was talked about and known around the time to cats who followed BCC. Mystikal was asked in The Source by a reporter about it who said that he repped Brooklyn to the fullest and wanted to know why he chose that name knowing that BCC had already laid claim to it and Mystikal responded by saying that he was an actual soldier in a real war (he was in the U.S. military), Lousiania was always referred to as "The Boot" and that brothers should focus their time on something more constructive than bytching over a name. Buckshot responded on Rap City explaining why they called themselves Boot Camp Click and threw in this line about, "we're not trying to run around telling you we're Boot Camp cuz we fought in some other man's war".
And as I said, Rock told part of the story when Kolby Kolb brought it up cuz Kolb was at the show where Rock jumped on stage in the middle of Mystikal's set and went after his peoples. BCC is my favorite hip-hop group, so I followed all this shyt back in the day pretty closely. I remember joking around and tearing a page out of The Source of a Mystikal ad and burning it, just clowning around my people when they were smoking one day.
He's biting from the VERY first frame of the video in the water. It's disgusting. The boat is even traveling in the same direction onscreen as the one that Buck is riding in "Buck Em Down".
All this time I thought the beef was just over the name of the crew.
I forgot that Mystikal was out before No Limit emerged.
I remember that Source article. Reporter was out of bounds for asking the question like that..and that's some of the stuff that lead to the anti-New York backlash that came later.
I was a fan of BCC also...I used to have "let's get in on" as my alarm clock song.
