Above the fray.
This beef was way before Mystikal signed to No Limit. He was still on Big Boy Records at the time. It isn't that well known because it was before Mystikal became the household name that he ended up becoming, but it was talked about and known around the time to cats who followed BCC. Mystikal was asked in The Source by a reporter about it who said that he repped Brooklyn to the fullest and wanted to know why he chose that name knowing that BCC had already laid claim to it and Mystikal responded by saying that he was an actual soldier in a real war (he was in the U.S. military), Lousiania was always referred to as "The Boot" and that brothers should focus their time on something more constructive than bytching over a name. Buckshot responded on Rap City explaining why they called themselves Boot Camp Click and threw in this line about, "we're not trying to run around telling you we're Boot Camp cuz we fought in some other man's war".

And as I said, Rock told part of the story when Kolby Kolb brought it up cuz Kolb was at the show where Rock jumped on stage in the middle of Mystikal's set and went after his peoples. BCC is my favorite hip-hop group, so I followed all this shyt back in the day pretty closely. I remember joking around and tearing a page out of The Source of a Mystikal ad and burning it, just clowning around my people when they were smoking one day.:russ:
Wow, thanks.
He's biting from the VERY first frame of the video in the water. It's disgusting. The boat is even traveling in the same direction onscreen as the one that Buck is riding in "Buck Em Down".
All this time I thought the beef was just over the name of the crew.

I forgot that Mystikal was out before No Limit emerged.

I remember that Source article. Reporter was out of bounds for asking the question like that..and that's some of the stuff that lead to the anti-New York backlash that came later.

I was a fan of BCC also...I used to have "let's get in on" as my alarm clock song.

Cam'ron dissed Jay, Mase on Let Me Know

"New York must stop bitin and start writin
And start malice
When the fukk we start bouncin?" - Cam to Jay-Z

"You the type of cat, wanna marry your lover
And to the end of the Earth for he like Mario Brothers
Better carry your rubber
Now you done this street, me I gun this V
Somethin to see, and man, ain't nothin to me
Not my man, not my style
Not my fam, not my pal
Not my clique, not my type
Hell no we not alike
You get knocked, you sit in a cell
Get raped, bytch, and you yell

And Cam got at Drag-On That's Me

"And I don't got beef, I don't play those games
If I did though believe me I would say y'all names
Go to your house, red dot scope your crib
Smack your earth, snatch your seeds, choke your wiz"

This was during the time there was a little beef because people said they sounded alike, and on Rap City, when Tigger asked Cam about Drag, Cam said "He does kiddie shyt, I do grown man raps"

Melle Mel dissing Grandmaster Flash on 1984's "Step Off"

Little pieces of a dream is all you mean
Since the day you stepped into the MC scene.
Bitin' your moves, takin' fake awards,
Sayin' everyone else is perpetratin' the frauds,
But you're nothin' but a clone of a flesh and bone.
Now you're tryin' to play gone on the microphone,
But I tell you 'bout a night and you know I'm right
When you listen to us rockin' to the broad daylight,
And then you looked in the sky and you started to cuss,
But then you prayed to God that you could be like us.
Then God was great and God was true
And he tried to show you how to be like you,
But you still didn't get where you wanted to go
When you gathered in a group and got your own show
'Cause without the source, the force won't survive.
For eternity, the source is alive.
You forgot the words of your creator
And now he's made you a perpetrator,
Forever in a world of you and a girl,
A few grams in a pipe to make your head swirl.
You must spread the words of the master teacher.
You die by the rhymes and the streets'll eat you.
The words are a gift we will never flaunt.
That's why we're gonna get everything we want.
Just like a shadow in the night on a sight unseen
And I'm the bonafide vocal master supreme,
And I'm here to run it down for the ladies and gents
For my rhymes make dollars plus they make sense,
See, you're down with Cowboy, you'll be rockin' the show.
With King Lu, Tommy Gun and, huh, Scorpio,
Kamikaze Clayton Savage and Easy Mike
And goin' down in the books is the king of the night,
So if you're ever in a battle, I'm-a make you my slave
And I'm-a give you a shovel so you can dig a grave.
Leave behind all your fame and wealth
So you can say one rhyme, then bury yourself, huh.
I may sound possessed, but you know I'm blessed
With the will to make sense of all this mess.
I'm the power of the sun that shines in the sky
And I'm the only MC that'll never die,
So just rock and don't stop 'til you hit the top,
But when you see Melle Mel, you're gonna have to drop.

:damn:

“Some MCs be talking and talking
Trying to show how black people are walking
But I don’t “Walk This Way” to portray
Or reinforce stereotypes of today”

“Who gets weaker? The king or the teacher
It's not about a salary it's all about reality
Teachers teach and do the world good
Kings just rule and most are never understood
If you were to rule or govern a certain industry
All inside this room right now would be in misery
No one would get along nor sing a song
Cause everyone'd be singing for the king, am I wrong?”

KRS one closing the coffin on the original school of hip hop by ethering Melle Mel

"I'm Still Number 1"
this is supposed to be the routine he did in person while battling Melle on stage....but on wax this qualifies as a sub

cued

You know what you need to learn?
Old School artists don't always burn
You're just another rapper who's had his turn
Now it's my turn, and I am concerned

About idiots posing as kings*
What are we here to rule?

I thought we were supposed to sing
And if we oughta sing, then let us begin to teach
Many of you are educated, open your mouth and speak

This is the one time when the king part was not directed at rundmc..but at melle.

This song is patched together from various freestyles or routines because the first lines say that there s no old school..and in this one he's throwing dirt on old school artist

The 718
The Madd Rapper skit?

it was a general diss but I always felt it HAD to be a response to the "Shark Biters" skit on Only Built For Cuban Links..or at Wu in general "This is my 4th album....referring to the fourth Wu
related album" more john blaze..ahahahahaha
.couple of shots at Jeru of course....because it leads into "kick in the door" which is directly shytting on jeru among others.

*I love Ghost, and i don't have the audio proof but there was a rae and ghost appearance on funk master flex when OBFCL came out and flex brought up that somebody was mad about the shark biters skit.....

Rae "drop a name"
FF" bad boy.....biggie"
Ghost "I'm NEUTRAL"

Rae and Ghost proceeded to cop pleas... in the words of Cappadona "this shyt was horrible"

before anybody screams duck tales at me, EVERYBODY listened to hot97 at that time....in the tristate area.this was the HEIGHT of Wu popularity..so other people surely heard it

Within 2 seconds of hearing The Madd Rapper talk I figured it was a parody of Ghostface :russ:

fukk fame, I shoot a hole in a 50 Cent piece to test my aim
How dare you call the Gods in vein
Not knowin the seriousness of this and why I came
to Earth, feet first
I dare you lion tame to the beat of the drum
No questionin to the session, I walk with gun
The magnum'll bust his head for many directions unknown
Another statistic, change the ballistics
on the nozzle, make em goggle and swallow
Scrape the craters of the brain for data
Old scriptures on withered paper
beginnin take shape and form
when the Gods get on it and crash your college dorm

:whew:

They were. They're from close hoods. A few blocks from each other. But In Broken Language, MOP wasn't sure if they were sending shots with the "the Downtown Swinga, the MOP bell ringer", Smooth was shouting them out but MOP kinda took at them going at them.
.

You gave a great breakdown of the beef. I think there's another factor, though.
I think the producer of the the BE song(D R Period had done a track for somebody else who had used the third person description style on a verse . I think it might have been Fame.

Gonna dig for proof though.
