Eh, not really. Here one could at least be introduced to current events and thought-provoking political or philosophical arguments that they might not otherwise know about. Video games for the most part build purely imaginary environments that have no real impact on the real world.
I've been playing games since the atari days. games are games they are not real... and to link it with implications of racial real world violence towards black people is straight up ignorant. Let's look at mortal kombat remember that controversey, it wasnt due on race but it was violence in itself period. let's not be stupid. when they create games with white protagonists he's often killing white enemies depending on where the game is set.

All it means is that we're not seeing enough variety in roles that non-white/anime looking characters take.
But with violence being the bread and butter of modern gaming, and white (sometimes Japanese) males being the main audience, it's hard to move away from that.
Closest we've got to non-scary black characters is in Left 4 Dead and Walking Dead to name a few.

i have a feeling gamers will immediately dismiss this study and respond "I've been playing video games all my life.... anyone who can't separate entertainment from real life is weak minded"

You have a point that personal experience is irrelevant, but did the researchers randomly assign the participants to black and white game characters? If not, you cannot claim cause and effect here.

Its not the game, its white supremacy, which was already in them before they played the game. The video game is just an outlet for them to express how they already feel. Its almost as if white people Need to see black people live up to the stereotypes they are taught which largely come from their parents, peers and peers parents, ultimately reinforced through media.
