I thought the album was good; would've been incredible if it was just one disc though.

Overall much better than HHID, which just bored me outside of 3-4 tracks.

never understood the hate for the album. like someone else said, the album gets an 8/10 from me. some songs i don't fukk with (Destiny Song, Makings of a Perfect bytch) some songs felt a little underwhelming (Reasons, UBR)

but there were many dope songs and i actually like the production. one thing i also never get was the hate specifically aimed at Salaam Remi over the years yet when you actually look at his track record with Nas...

i think the album dragged a little bit at times especially on the second disc. i think maybe the songs lacked great choruses maybe. to me it was dope beats and dope verses and ideas with decent/average choruses in some cases. this does bring down the album a little bit. and some of the concepts sound a little too forced (but i think that of most Nas concept songs)

EDIT: Nas it the type of dude that would be like "i got an ill concept. i'm gonna make a song and i'm rapping from the perspective of the beat being made from the moment the sample and drums are flipped to the moment where it's being spit on by the dope emcee, as if it was being abused, gang raped by the posse. and then the beat becomes promiscuous and gets around to other rappers for remixes and mixtaped"

then he'd make the song but make a little intro in the song breaking down the concept. then on top of that the chorus re-explains the concept in case you didn't get it. that's the thing that bothers me. he tries to be too clever with it. to the point where it takes away from the coolness of the song. what could have been a dope concept ends up sounding forced.

perfect example would be I Gave You Power vs Pac's Me and My Girlfriend. similar concept and Nas made his song first. both dope but Pac's version is the superior one in my opinion because he does it seamlessly.

Didn't like These Are Our Heroes or Makings of A Perfect AT ALL........Rest of My Life wasn't my favorite but I could listen to it.......No One Else In The Room was listenable...didn't have to hear Bridging The Gap after a while......Take away intros and there are 23 actual songs, only three of which I've never listened to again. That's pretty fcukin amazin.

It was an OK album. I think I may have preferred Salaam's original vision of the album. One disc would've been nice but I'm cool with it.
