Just get a satchel, carrying a bookbag just feels too childish, imo. But we are talking about different settings, I carry a bag for school because I have literal books and heavy stuff in there, but for what you are getting at, a satchel is best, especially if you go out and about like that.

If you are using the bag for work it's fine, I use one for school, but I wouldn't go out to random places with a bookbag. Bookbags are functional, imo, if the items aren't heavy, I don't see the point in wearing one when a satchel is available. We are talking about two different scenarios, which is why the idea of carrying a bookbag around sounded crazy to me. And no, a satchel isn't a purse, at least not in the style I'm thinking of.
