I’m trying to reply to folks in the debate thread, what type of authoritarian regime is going on where one mod doesn’t like the conversation so they lock up to two of the threads people most want to post in?

Agreed. Bad move. Now people have to make a thread to talk about the popular topic of the night. Keep one of the two sticky threads open. That's the point even when the discussion isn't the best. Otherwise people will just go to reddit or elsewhere to discuss what they want to discuss here.
