Sting fans, do you really think he was ready for the torch going into 98?

he was the franchise for a minor league team though. do you believe he was ready to be a top guy in the majors? would wcw have been better off pushing sting in favor of hogan?

i honestly don't know. i am hoping to hear good insight and opinions from both sides.

You're trolling...lol@franchise of a minor league..so minor that Vince was shook and doing those Billionaire Ted skits.

those skits were made after wcw acquired hogan.

i was clearly referring to sting's time in wcw prior to hogan's arrival, when it was nowhere near as big.

no they weren't both on top. from the moment hogan came to wcw, he became the main attraction.

we all know that's the biggest match sting has ever been in, but that might not even rank in hogan's top 5. so to say that sting was on top ALONG with hogan is just flat out false.

U trippin

Hogan vs Sting is easily in Hogan's top 5

And Sting/Flair or Sting/Luger was just as big as Sting/Hogan

Hogan/Andre, Hogan/Savage, Hogan/Flair or maybe Hogan/Warrior the only Hogan matches that was as big as Hogan/Sting

WCW fukked that shyt up big time

There's a reason Sting is considered the franchise of WCW even over Flair at this point

Yes, and I mean how minor was WCW in y'all minds even pre-Hogan? They had video games, product, could tour overseas and had tv deals and exposure in the states and abroad. I get that they werent as noticeable as WWF cause they had a wider reach in terms of attempts to crossover but anyone who grew up and watched soley knew WWF always knew about Sting and how he stood out.

I mean he was a Vince McMahon guy who wasnt in a Vince McMahon company to a certain extent. Probably would have been pushed if he was in that company too

I get giving the ball to Hogan when he joined WCW and making sting 1b babyface (Which they kinda did even when Savage joined) But once Hogan's heel the natural move is to push Sting again as their guy and it worked.

Sting beating Hogan CLEAN after a 15 minute ass whooping then beating him again in the blowoff at SuperBrawl

Loses title /passes torch mid summer to the Red Hot Goldberg, an on the verge booker T or even Scott Steiner summer of 1998.

Yes he would have "drawn" since he would finally be in position to do so.

(People who quote Meltzer love saying Sting didn't draw on top while ignoring how badly managed WCW was in the early 90's where NO ONE drew)

There's more to it than this, brother. In the late 80's/early 90's Luger against Flair or a top heel would draw noticeably better than Sting would.

Sting was the right choice to win the belt at Starrcade. He wasn't the right choice to be their top guy facing off against WWE and Austin/Rock/Foley/DX though. Keeping him strong in 98 for a big match against Goldberg would've been good.

Although I HATED Crow Sting, there's no denying that he was the most over character in WCW in that era, until mid-98 Goldberg took over.

But yeah, saying Sting needed a torch from Hogan is completely foolish. Sting was the man who kept WCW going in the early-mid 90's. I don't think you have any idea how big Sting was in the South. You can't if ur making such statements.

Luger was NEVER seen as bigger than Sting in WCW. Ever. He got pushes and whatnot but his Flair matches were comedy situations. Flair kept outsmarting him over and over again while the company revolved around Sting and Flair since the day they both got big.

Goldberg didn't TAKE OVER...fans never chose Goldberg over Sting outright. The gimmick worked for Goldberg as a pushed entity but WWF was on top after Goldberg got pushed like a king. When WCW was on top was when Sting was UNSTOPPABLE and carrying the brand during it's hottest storyline.

honestly man, I stopped caring about Sting once he changed gimmicks.

But as a kid, make no mistake surfer Sting/blonde Sting was for me, on the same level as Hogan.

He was his own man, his own star and had his own torch so to speak.

I mean what ur saying is an OVER THE HILL, physically WASHED UP Hogan who relied on an unthinkable shock-value heel turn had the torch and gave it to Sting. C'mon man....that's laughable

fine maybe there was no torch for hogan to pass, but wcw definitely had a decision at that point when it came to who got the ball. they decided to stick with hogan.

what do you think sting could have done with the ball.
