Yupp, I said it. One of the greatest albums ever of any genre. One day everyone will realize this. Alot of Stillmatic centers around his beef with Jay-Z, as it should. But people should not overlook this amazing album

People thought Nas was done, and kicked him when he was down, but they woke up a sleeping lion :banderas::banderas::banderas:

giphy.gif

Album was laced with storytelling, braggadocio, philosophical themes, coming of age, and the consequences of bad choices

The album opened up with probably the greatest Album into ever :whew:

1. Stillmatic (The Intro) - 10/10
- The production, plus the first thing he says. When someone says turn my voice up, you know it's gonna be a classic

Uh, you know I still run with that, that blood of a slave
Boiling in my veins
It's just hot until a nikka can't take it no more
Blood of a slave, Heart of a King
Turn my voice up

2. Ether - 10/10
- Self explanatory. The greatest diss song ever, period. It's amazing that one song destroyed the Rocafella Records empire

3. Got Ur Self a Gun - 8/10
- Hood banger. Such an underrated lyrical track, shocked this doesn't get much notice

4. Smokin' - 10/10
- Love the production. Nas just floated on this :banderas:

Magazines say I walked on water, talked to the heavens
Spit at judges, stepped on peasants
But in reality, I just entered your galaxy
September '73, up in these wild streets
fukkin these wild freaks, a harem of hoes (God damn)
And my mystique got 'em tearin my clothes

5. You're da Man - 10/10
- Possibly the best track of the album. shyt is straight beautiful
I saw a dead bird flyin through a broken sky :mjcry:

6. Rewind - 10/10
- This is why he's the GOAT. From a deep track on track 5, to follow this up with an amazing storytelling track. The rhyme scheme on this is unparalleled. Rhyming the backwards talk with another verse

The voice on the phone was like, "Outside right we"
So with my mouth wide, holdin my heat

7. One Mic - 10/10
- Probably Nas' most popular track to casual fans. A classic track, with a classic video. This would be the start of Nas rapping in a political space, which we would see in this later albums

8. 2nd Childhood - 9/10
- Storytelling Nas at his best. My favorite line

Ex-convict, was paroled there after his long bid
Cornrows in his hair, still slingin, got a crew
They break his moms furniture, watchin Comicview

9. Destroy and Rebuild - 9/10
- Henny Nas at his best :wow:. Breh was not giving a fukk. Sonned Cormega, Prodigy, and Nature like he was their father giving them advice. Just like the radio interviews on Angie Martinez and Funk Flex

10. The Flyest - 10/10
- Alot of people like Life's a bytch for the AZ and Nas collabo, but sorry this one might be their best collab. It's a shame this song is so underrated. The chemistry Nas and AZ have is something else

11. Braveheart Party - 6/10
- No comment :francis:

12. Rule - 8/10
- Amerie is such a great singer. Nice remake of an 80s classic. Political Nas at his best

13. My Country - 9/10
- Classic track. I really believe this was the breakout album for Nas' political Hip Hop to be at the forefront. I loved the direction he put to this album

14. What Goes Around - 10/10
- Probably a top 10 Nas song of all time :yeshrug:. The imagery, the lyrics, the emotion. Man this song is amazing

nikkas up in my hood be getting shot giving poison
In hospitals, shots rittle the block
Little children and elderly women run for their lives
Drizzling rain come out the sky every time somebody dies,
Must be out my fukking mind, what is this, the hundredth time?
Sending flowers to funerals, reading rest in peace
You know the usual, death comes in threes

15. Every Ghetto - 10/10
- Man, another classic track. Lyrically on point as usual

This album put everything in perspective. This is the album where everyone knew Nas was that dude. The dude who can't fukk with. Basically saying, IF HE WANTED TO, he can destroy the whole industry, but he rather be a sleeping lion and just chill :manny:. This album cemented that he was the greatest rapper ever

It's a great album and a return to form for Nas, in the public eye that is. I never thought he fell off lyrically. I would remove smokin all together and I think the flyest, and 2nd childhood are rated a little high, especially smokin. Great album though. In my top 5 Nas albums.

No...it's not. An album with Braveheart Party on it cannot be considered one of the greatest albums of all time. Not to mention some of the other forgettable to meh tracks towards the end like Rule and Every Ghetto, and the mixed bag production wise. Those flaws stand out even more given that its always compared to The Blueprint, which is flawless sonically (beats/production), although it has a couple meh tracks too.

It's a 4/5.
